Loading for 7mm08.

Hey guys , it's been a while!
I want to load up some 120gr prohunters for my sons 708 youth rifle while using Noslers brass , w760 and cci 250s.

The thing is sierras data starts at 41.4 using federal brass and ends with 47.9.
Noslers data starts with 48 gr.
I do know federal brass has less volume than nosler brass, so what do you guys think ?

It worked for my 30/06 but their data was close and was very happy with the results from 760 , mag primer, nosler brass and the 180 gr. Prohunter @ 30*F.

quickload is showing about 53.1 gr as a max charge . I usually drop back 4.0 grains as a starting point . so this would be about 49 gr min and 53 gr max . this is with 55.0 water capacity .

if you would measure a few case water capacities we could get you closer info . do you know how to measure water capacity ?

Somewhat, my thought was , is nosler giving a h20 measurement with a seated bullet in the case ?

Yes, they are showing with a bullet seated.

If so, load one of each charge till you see where you are hitting book speeds.

Yes, I got a Caldwell chrono not to long ago.
I only shot my 9mm through it just to test for function.

That'll work just fine. Start low and work up a couple single rounds at the lower charges. It'll form some brass and give you an idea where you are at.

If it were me I'd probably load up 50-53 and see what comes out on paper and the chrono. That'll easily get you in the ballpark of where you wanna be.

These powders should get you better velocities, at the benefit of using 15-20% less powder=less recoil. Varget & RL-15 are the only two powders I use now in my 7/08, shooting 120-150gr bullets. I have always been able to tweek out a sub MOA from one, or the other.

Mid 50's or so.

Big Game is all I use for 3 (used to be 4) 7mm-08s. I use 120 TTSX, 120 Ballistic Tip, 140 Partions, Accubonds, and VLDs.

All sub .75" shooters, sub .5" when we're all (me, dad, brother, nephew) on point. All three rifles are Tikkas, nothing fancy.

It seems like that rifle will shoot all bullet types.

I'm gonna have to try those partitions.

I've killed deer and elk with them.

A 4x4 bull, bang-flop but only 68 yards, so no test.

The other, a spike at 346 yards, bang-flop. Very impressed with the bullet.
