Welcome to the forum, Gummi_Bear. A friend used his 7mm-08 loaded with 140 gn Berger VLDs to take a nice grizzly a couple of years back. They will work.

Thank you, happy to be here. Been lurking for a while, finally got around to registration.

The Timney triggers for Mausers are a great addition and fairly straight forward to install. I did mine without issue, so if I can do it... I did have one minor issue that I had to resolve. I had to use my dremel tool and remove additional wood from the stock, and also remove some metal from the military trigger guard. But it works great now.

I'll be using that sporterized 30-06 Mauser with Williams peep sights this year with 165 gr. Sierra HPBT gamekings. Just had it out last Saturday and it shot really well at 50 yards. Will likely grab my Remington 783 308 with 125 gr Sierra PH's too. Bret

Is the 30-06 based on a 98 or a 96? I have a 96 Swede in 6.5x55, and the original trigger (from 1908) is awful.

Yep, I, too, like my Timney trigger!

Kinda plain, but I think it has a lot of character and
It's my only 100% DRT I have or have ever owned.

Finished installing the trigger which attached fine. The stock was a different story though. The old fajen stock only had room for the original trigger. Took me a little over an hour the finally get the stock inletted though. The back tail of the Timney trigger was much longer than the original. I finally got it though!!

7mm Rem Mag 150gr Swift Scirocco at 3100 with H4831 in my new Remage I built over the winter

338 Federal 180gr AccuBond at 2735 in my Ruger M77, used it last year, does amazing

338 Federal 200gr Speer Hot Cor in my DPMS 338LR, moving about 2500fps but extremely light and mobile

Both 338 Feds use H335

And lastly would be my 338-06 with 225gr Accubonds at about 2780 with RL17 in my first Savage build

I like my 338 cals...

The kids will be shooting my Remington 600 in 6mm loaded with gmx's over h4350. They are tack drivers in that rifle and really make the caliber shine. I will be using my Winchester 88 in 308 with factory Winchester 150 soft points. Before season ends I will probably take the 6mm out with a load I finally worked up with 100 grain partitions to see how they do. It was dad's rifle and I try to spend at least one day in the field with it without the kids.

Mine is a 98 action made in 1945. The original trigger wasn't terrible, but the Timney for the Mauser w/o safety was only $50 or so. It is a great trigger. I have retained the military safety with William's peep sight, but may go with a low swing safety at some point, as they are just easier to manipulate quietly while hunting.

I’ll be using either my 7mm08 with 120 NBT or my 260 with a 130 grain NAB, VLD or 136 grain scenar-L

And for Indiana I may just use my 358 Hoosier with the 200 grain NAB or the 180 TTSX

25-06- 100g E-Tip with RL 26
270wsm- 150g Speer BTSP with RL 26
300wsm- 180g AccuBond with RL 17

My sons 7mm RM- 140g Partitions

Will mainly be hunting with the Savage 116 .30-06 this season: 165 NAB, WW brass, CCI 200, 57gr RL17, 2950 fps

My 10 yo daughter will be using a new load in a Win M70 .30-06 that I traded into: 125 NAB, PP brass, CCI 200, H4895 (can’t remember weight right now), 3000 fps

She may also use “‘Ole Faithful,” my Rem 700 .270 Win that I’ve owned since I was 16. It now sits in a youth stock, but she’s really outgrown it, and shoots: 110 Sierra PH, RP brass, CCI 200, 37 gr (IIRC) RL7, 2900ish fps

My 7 yo daughter will be hunting with the CMMG M4LE, and keeping shots at around 50yd: 65gr SGK, LC brass, CCI 400, 25 gr H4895

Wow, so much to choose from I see with you guys! I tend to just pick one and go with it all season, unless it's a Coyote, then it's always a .223 Rem, or a 5.56 NATO depending on the gun.

I've used my 6.5/300 Kimber Montana the past two days of our Elk/Deer season. It only eats two bullets, three actually, the 140 or 142 SMK, and a 140 SGK. All three at the the same speed-3,000 fps in new Winchester 270 WSM brass.

I almost pulled out the 300 NM TRG-42 this morning since I was hunting in my front yard glassing the mountain side behind my house since I could reach out to almost 900 yards. But since I like to keep my cool I limit myself to 600 yards or less on Big Game animals I respect........ now those Wolves are a completely different story! I tend to get real serious then, and go out of my way to let them know I will reach out and teach them a lesson or two!

longrangehunter, that Kimber 6.5/300 WSM sounds cool. Who was your gunsmith?

Shilen Rifles, Inc. but I read a few years ago they no longer install their barrels on guns anymore? The barrel channel/stock work was outsourced through Shilen, but I don't remember who he was?

Gonna do Ohio again this year, so that pretty well limits the selection. 7/08...out. 338 Fed....out. 7RM....out.

That leaves the 44Mag, with Plain Jane 240gr Win white box ammo.

Nothing sexy, nor exciting, but they do work.

Well, since Elk are sorta deer here are my 2 loads.

338WM 210 Swift, 72 grains 17, CCI250

The Mighty 7mm Mashburn Super Mag, 154 Interbond, 78.4 H1000 and CCI250’s
