In 2012 my local club is going to be holding monthly 600 yard prone matches, as well as monthly tactical/practical rifle matches. I'm going to try to make as many of them as possible. Been a couple of years since I shot a match, but these are only a 15 minute drive from my home, so... Why not?

Mostly I'll be using the .308 Green Machine and Nosler 168's or 155's. I'll let you know how it goes...

Here's pulling for you, Guy. You should be in the running with what you've shown us.

Man, that sounds like fun. I would like to see what Quantico has to offer in that kinda shooting. Right now, from all I see, it is all service rifle comps and I am not really interested in that kinda shooting really. Scotty

Way to plan for some serious fun Guy.

I am sure you'll be bring home some F/TR metal!!

Is it April yet, so I can go too?

Thanks guys.

"I am sure you'll be bring home some F/TR metal"

Never touch the stuff! I'll sling up, but keep the scope on the rifle and shoot in the any rifle/any sight class, but traditional prone rather than F-Class. I thoroughly enjoy shooting from the sling. Not sure why, but I like it a lot better than shooting from a bipod or other rest.

Guess I'd better put the ol' Green Machine back in that McMillan stock.

Thanks, the first session of 2012 is a 600 yard prone deal, on January 1st.

Calling it the Hangover Shoot.

Usually real chilly about then too.

Good Luck Guy... Should be good practice for that Pronghorn hunt. Practice at 600 will make that 200 yard shot at a big 16incher a "chip shot". No pressure..... Have fun. CL

Hmm. Woke early, about 0430 - stayed up an hour or so - went back to bed. Slept right up to the start of the 0900 tactical/practical match. Oooops!

Shouldn't have any problem making the 1:00 pm 600 yard shoot though. Sheesh... The guys are going to razz me about missing the early match. Ah well...

Snowed last night, should be nice up at the range! Always looks nice up there with a fresh covering of snow. I'll let you know how the 1300 shoot goes for me. I think it's just going to be a single string of fire, 20 rounds. I'll shoot the Remington, scoped in the any rifle/any scope class, using only the sling. I think most of the other guys are going to be shooting that new-fangled F-class with rests or bipods, but I like my sling.

Now I need to go find my "stuff" for the shoot. Rifle, ammo, spotting scope, shooting jacket, stool, score book, empty chamber indicator, glove, sling, etc... It's all here somewhere - half buried in remodel mess I think!

*OK - back from the range. Good & bad. Man, after a four year layoff, I am badly out of practice for this 600 yard sling-supported stuff. Ugh! That's the only bad. Need to get back in my shooting coat and sling up more often. I felt real awkward in position.

The good thing is the ol' Green Machine can still belt those 155 gr Noslers into the 10-ring just fine when I do my part.

So - next month I hope to be more comfortable on the firing line and do better. Only three of us showed up for what turned out to be a 600 yard practice session. The other two guys were shooting bipod equipped rifles, a 6.5 Creedmore and another .308 Win. We used a 600 yard version of the 1000 yard F-Class target - very demanding target! OK w/me, but yeah, they both out-shot me. I don't mind coming in third, but third out of three isn't so good...

Ah well. Next month!

Guy
