The 444 Marlin is basically the 44 magnum but elongated by 1 inch. It uses .429/.430" bullets.
It is the original Marlin Big Bore. What I mean by that is since the 45-70 was basically dead in the 1960's Marlin built a synergy with Remington and introduced this cartridge to better the ballistics of the 30-30 or 35 Remington in "brush" situations. Then people began to realize and appreciate what this caliber and the 45-70 bring to the table.
It will basically do 2400 fps with a 240 gr
2300 with a 265
and 2100-2200 fps with a 300 gr.
I have handloaded the 355 grain Beartooth cast with gas check to 2060 fps.
What a hammer! Basically a modernized version of the 405 Win...darn close actually.
