Hey All,
Been hanging around awhile but this is my first post. as an introduction I am a lifelong hunter shooter and outdoors man, growing up in the whitetail woods of Missouri. My dad taught me to reload very young and its been a passion of mine. I joined the navy right out of high school and never moved back to MO, I live now if Florida, so I currently don't have a reloading setup.
So why my first post in the Rifles section? I have never really owned a high end rifle. Most were off the rack utility guns or sporterized Mausers ie a M700 SPS, a Savage 16, a 1916 Spanish, M96, and a K98. Dad had a few but just never kept them, traded for this sold for that. Killed my first deer with a beautiful #1B 30-06 he had(he sold to pay for my broken wrist in the 8th grade) and a M700 LSS Mountain rifle in 260 slipped away too.
I have been a huge 6.5 fan since that first Swede I had so when the 26 nosler came out I had to have one. I had a few dollars saved for a rifle and originally a M48 patriot was the ticket however with a 20 month lead time I needed an alternative. As of now only 4 production/semi production rifles are chambered for it. the M48($1700), CZ 550 Sonoran($3200) Browning Xbolt LRH($1500) Western hunter($1000) an the Montana Rifle Company 1999.
The M48 would take to long, the CZ was too much money, the Brownings are UGLY, so that left the MRC.
I placed my order for an Extreme X2 in 26 Nosler on 3/27 and was quoted 14 weeks at under $1300.
Well it took a little longer than that but it arrived at my LGS on Monday, 19 weeks, but she's here. Doing the happy dance. One I get it scoped I will post a few pics.

Welcome to the forum! I'll be looking forward to your work with the 26. I'd like to see somebody run the 142gr ABLR in that cartridge.

Scott

Scott,
Thanks for the welcome. I just ordered a box of the 142's. I have a box of the 140s that I am going to start break in with. Once I get set up for reloading(I have to a $3.85 a shot) I plan on trying the 156 Oryx and the 160 hybrid as well. Not going to go lower the the 129/130's in this cartridge.

I don't know what you plan on using for a scope but I wouldn't over look on of the Meopta Meopros. I just got a 3.5-10X44 from Camera Land and I'm loving it. And welcome to the Forum.

Welcome aboard. Always pleased to welcome another shooter to the forum. The 26 Nosler is a beast, no doubt. I don't own one, but the local custom builder is turning out quite a few. Twenty-eight Nosler is the next big one that is already beginning to show up. Should be great fun in the field. Again, welcome aboard.

Truck,
Got a great deal on a steiner gs3 3-15x50 with the S1 reticle. It is way heavier than I wanted to go on this rifle at 24 oz. First choice was the zeiss hd5 but I couldn't pass up the deal on the steiner. Will be using Talley medium lightweights. Rifle is listed at 7 lb 6 oz but think those numbers are with the b&c they used to use on the x2. It should be sub 9 lb all in I think.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the MRC.. I picked their ASR in 30-06 last winter and am very happy with it. My choice for scope is the Zeiss HD5 2-10x42.

Welcome to the forum, glad you decided to jump in. Congratulations on your new rifle.
As mentioned, the 142 gr ABLR should wring out the full potential of the 26 Nosler.

Welcome to the forum. A fellow I know has an MRC 26 Nosler and has had excellent targets with the 140 AB.

Welcome Pard! I like the looks of that 26 Nosler, should be a super flat shooter. Glad you are getting back into reloading too, it has been a great hobby for me! Are there any good rifle ranges near where you live and will you be doing any hunting with this rifle?

Welcome to the bestest forum on the net. :)

Is bestest a word?
If not it should be. :)

Welcome to the forum!

I'd be interested to hear more about your rifle as you know more. How do you like the stock--is she slim trhough the grip?

Sweet. Can't wait to see it. I do want to know what about the MRC is better than the 70.

1. Winchester can't figure out how to keep themselves in business, and they exported assembly of Model 70s to Portugal. I know, it's the way of the world, capitalism and all. But until I run out of choices for 100% US made rifles, that's all I will buy.

2. MRC kept the open trigger design of the "old style" Model 70 trigger. Some may consider that beneficial. I have used box Timney triggers for hunting in sometimes cold, wet, etc. weather and haven't had problems, but some people have had difficulty. Really no way for an old Model 70 style trigger to fail.

Other than those two items, I think the Mod 70 and MRC 1999 actions are very similar. If you had a Mod 70 action already (or aren't opposed to a rifle assembled in Portugal) there's no big difference.

Welcome to the Assylum!!
When I read your intial post I read your list expecting you to ask which one to buy, the MRC popped out to me!! Then I seem that is what you went with!!! Awesome I think you will be extremely happy with it will make an excellent hunting companion. Lots of good glass out there these days.
Lots of people are using the ABLR in this cartridge but I myself would lean towards the original AB as velocity for upset will likley not be a problem.

Welcome to the best Hunting & Shooting site on the Net. Great people here that like having lots of fun, also loads of knowledge :).
The 26 Nosler is a laser to say the least!!
A recomenndation on a second calibre would be the 35 Whelen !!
One question back to you, are you a lefty?

Blessings,
Dan

preacher,
I have a few outdoor options near by and both my indoor ranges have 100yd lanes. This rifle and its concept was for a purely hunting rig. Outside of practice, sight in, and load development I have never been a benchrest shooter.

joe,
I am very pleased with the newer in house mad stock. It is very slim through the grip reminding me of the remington mountain rifle stocks of old, it has a nice LOP and drop with a soft rubber pad. The textured paint job will do well in wet conditions. If there was one thing that I would want to change and that is a cheekpiece but even without it, it shoulders nicely and the cheek sits nicely in line with the action without having to move around much.
