Yes, USRAC first cataloged and built a Classic Stainless Model 70 Sporter starting in 1997 with a wood and a composite stock. I do not think that many were sold with wood stocks because I have not seen many in the gun stores or for sale. I can copy the catalog pic if you wish.
Here is my 30-06 Springfield in a Winchester Model 70 Classic Stainless with wooden stock...
To my knowledge there weren't too many of these made. The only other one I have ever seen was a 338 Win Mag which belongs to a friend of mine in Wasilla, AK. I love this gun, this one and my new 300 WSM are my favorites (and only winchesters). This one features a 4-groove 24" barrel. The worst I have ever seen it shoot was with Barnes XBT's putting 5 shots in 1.5" @ 100 yards. Everything else has been right at an inch or below.
I have a custom VX-I Leupold on top, I say custom because I had it sent in to have the LRD reticle and click adjustments installed. Since this photo I have put a Leupold one piece scope base to replace to the two piece ones you see here.
Shot this 6x3 muley at about 250 yards in 2009 in a drainage at quite a downhill angle. Took us nearly 2 hours to drag him back up out of there. He was heavy and the terrain was one of those 3 steps forward, 2 steps back kind of deals. He isn't the biggest buck I have ever got but one of the hardest to pack out. That is why he is in the process of being hung up on the wall. I admire such adversaries!
Well I can't speak for everyone but good luck getting me to turn loose of mine! There is no price on this one or my 300 WSM! The 300 WSM was a birthday present from my Dad and the 30-06 has been with me on too many adventures to trust it to someone else's care!
I have stainless and walnut in 7mm RM (bought in about '90), in 7mm WSM (bought in about '03) and 325 WSM (bought in about 04). These are all Featherweights, however. I turned down stainless and walnut Featherweights in 30-06 and 270 Win in about '90. Somewhere in the back of my mind are several laminate stocked stainless rifles, but I don't really recall the Sporters with walnut stocks. The pictures speak volumes. I suppose they didn't make it this far north.
