Just a few pics of my 1891 Mauser Modelo Argentino.. I had this rifle at least twenty years. Picked it up at a Gun Show in Wichita KS back when I lived there. Don't know who did the work on customizing, but they did a top notch job. Trigger is awesome.. still the old two stage, but very little creep and breaks crisp and clean everytime, action is a smooth as a hot knife thru warm butter. Stock was a dark stain when I got it, but I refinished it with Birchwood Casey tru oil not long after I got it. Right now it wears a VX1 3-9x40. These wonderful old Rifles are a joy to shoot and hunt with.. Mine has serial # C4990, which makes it a 1892 manufacture, which BTW is Loewe, Berlin. Wished I could find a Buheler safety lever for it, but sadly it is no longer made.
124 yrs old and still going strong.
Enjoy
Ed

Very nice. There is something about old rifles that is comforting. 9And, Cheyenne, just be quiet about April and I using these on our early hunts!)

Thank you for sharing. Reminding me why I like good wood!

These old Mauser rifles still have a lot of life in them. The pre-98 ones made in Imperial Germany and Liege Belgium are especially well made. I've always wanted one of these, but keep finding them with poorly maintained bores. Almost took home a Belgium made M93 pre-1898 in 7x57 once, but found it at a time when I was saving for other things and left it go.

Nice rifle, glad you are still hunting that dog! Cartridge design remarkably similar to modern .308 Win.

Found a listing for your Buehler safety on Ebay, but the auction ended 1/22. I'd watch there and gunbroker.

I have Hunted with it and still do.. Carried it with me for a couple of days this past fall on our Colorado Bull Elk Hunt.. I have killed 2 Mule deer Bucks that I remember for sure and my bro in law killed a nice WT buck with it. One of my Mule Deer I harvested I was using the now discontinued 303 call 200 gr Speer Grand Slam. Loaded to 2550 FPS I took a Texas Heart shot and found the bullet under the hide in the lower neck.. Penetrated from stern to stem.. Wished I knew where I hid that bullet, but after 2 moves I am sure it is hiding in a box somewhere. Other game was killed with 180gr Sierra Pro Hunter with stellar results.. My plan is to take at least one Elk with it in the near future..

Never crossed my mind to check Ebay.. I will keep a look out for one there.
Glass Bedding and either blueing or Cerakote in in its future..
Thanks for all the nice comments

JD,
When I went back thru my old reloading data I had exclusively used IMR 4320. So before our fall Elk hunt I decided to try a few different powders. 4320 had always giving good velocity but the accuracy was 1.5 to 2 MOA, definitely acceptable for hunting big game. So I tried Blc2, IMR4064, IMR4350, and RL15, velocities weren't up to what I was hoping for with any of these. I then tried H335 and on my first round of working up to a satisfactory load the accuracy began to improve dramatically. I was working towards 2700 with the Hornady 150 gr Interlock SP, thinking that was probably a good velocity with that bullet. I hit 2730avg with 45 grs with no excessive pressure signs and mild recoil. I was very pleased with that load as I was able to shoot several 3 shot groups at just under 1 MOA at 100yds. I have now turned my attention back to the Sierra 180gr Pro Hunter and Dr Mike hooked me up with some QL data for 180's and it looks very promising.. Hoping to be able to duplicate the accuracy and get around 2620 FPS (308 Win factory load dup). Planning some more big game hunts in Colorado this fall and hope to score again..
Take care
Ed
