Hi Guy's

Is it better to test bullets at say 20-25 yards or at about the range where your more
than likely to shoot at a deer?

Thanks,

Ideally you want the results of true impact velocity. Of course that is impossible since you never know what range the shot will be presented.

For my needs I like to test at close range. Why? Well think of it this way. I know the PT BT and AB will open up down to 1600 to 2000 fps impact velocity.
They have proven that to me time after time. So my only issue is whether or not they will hold together for a close up shot from whatever vehicle I launch them from.

Now when it comes to the monometals then it is a different animal. My concern with them is whether or not it will hold up, but whether it will open up at long range.

Depending on time and jugs, I test at 50, 100, 200, and 300 yds.
Due to time constraints, I just shot a .224 cal 64 gr BSB into jugs at 30 yds.

Fotis does make an excellent point.

Fotis and I are on the exact same track.. Not worried about them opening up, I wanna see if they can handle the torture of a close range encounter..

That is a lot of milk jugs :!: . I need to start saving; good thing I have four kids

Yep, get them kids to start drinking more milk!! I have to get neighbors to save them for me, since there is only me around and I have to buy in half gallon jugs so the milk doesn't spoil.

Joel, Brian and I got your for the milk jug test. Gotta get Bill to do a couple with the 300 W and his 7STW... Those would be cool as well

One thing to keep in mind - Put them at least 25 yards away - Unless you need a shower! Don't ask me how I aquired that knowledge!
