MOA Rifles

Excellent article. I concur that we live in the golden age of firearms manufacturing. I have shot few rifles in the past ten years that would not deliver near MOA accuracy with selected ammunition.

Cool article so far, but I see a math error right off the bat... a circle is 360 degrees, a minute of angle is 1/60 of a degree. So 1 MOA is 1/21600 if a circle.

I agree with that DrMike...we DO live in the golden age of firearms manufacturing. I don't think that I've messed with a new rifle in 8 or 10 years that I couldn't get to shoot with a little tinkering. And several in the last couple of years that shot MOA or better with factory ammo right out of the box.

As a discussion point- is it better rifles or better ammo or a combination of both thats doing it? We don't seemed to have any new tricks up our sleeve in rifle design since the new ones look mostly like the old ones.

I see that the author corrected his math error later in the article.

I sort of agree on the golden age statement. Performance wise, yes definitely. But there is something about older M70 and commercial Mauser rifles, hand working maybe, that CNC cannot touch.

As far as why the new guns are better, I think (as the article mentions, so I'm not coming up with any new thoughts), it's a combination of manufacturing techniques/technologies and materials. Same with ammo. Sure, there are cool new powders and bullets, but I think the real headway has been made in the consistency of manufacturing.

Real good article, I have shot or owned most of those tested and have not found a bad one in the lot.
There are so many rifles and so little time :(

Blessings,
Dan
