Thanks Fotis. Been several years putting them together. Of course you got to give one away, about every 2 years or so. But most of them were Featherweights. Lets see 3 Nephews, 3 Nisses, 2 Daughters, and 2 Son in Laws. Took 20 years to get them all shooting Winchesters.

Although I am more partial to my 1992 Vintage 30-06 Win 70 Classic, I do also love my new model 70 in 300 WSM. They're both handsome rifles and shoot straighter than the road to hell.

If this is to persuade you into buying one, all I can say is.... DO IT!!!

Sounds familiar Too Tall, with (3) sons, (2) step sons, (5) male grandson's etc. Get them shooting is the main and important thing to keep our sport alive.

IDG397, I have a Win Mod 70 stainless Classic, "All Terrain" rifle in 7mm Rem mag (swapped it for a weeks worth of work)!
All I did was a trigger job and pillar bedded the factory stock and it would put 3 handloaded shots (120gr Nosler B/tips), into 1/2" to 5/8" groups all day!!!

That was with a Leupold 2.5 - 8 x 36 scope on it, see lower rifle in the attached image.
I'm a Very Happy hunter!

I know this is consfusing, it is to me as well. Shown below is a USRAC Winchester Model 70 with extractor assembly and with with 6 numbers after the G (made in 1995/96). Apparently USRAC started over again in the G serial number ranges. Creating duplication. I have also replaced the Tupperware stock on this rifle with a new Browning Grade II stock and Williams one piece bottom metal. I have shown this rifle before.

From the New Haven Plant:

7WSM
Loaded with 160 grain ABs, this rifle puts three shots into 0.25 inches.

7RM
This rifle normally is used with 175 grain bullets (I use Partitions, Speer Mag-Tips and Trophy Bonded Bear Claws). All shoot about 3/4 inches at 100 yards.

Three New Haven rifles, two of which have already been shown: 7WSM (wearing a VXL), 325WSM and 7RM. The 325WSM shoots 200 grain Partitions into 0.5 inches consistently.

One other New Haven rifle with a couple of 2008 produced Featherweights. The first is a 300WSM that shoots wonderfully tiny groups with 180 grain Hornady InterLocks and 180 grain CT Fail Safes. The next two are a 270WSM and a 30-06 built in SC.

Finally, here are a couple of other New Haven built rifles, a 280 and a 270WSM, either of which shoot far better than they should. The 280 digests a steady diet of 139/140 grain bullets with aplomb, shooting all into 1/4 inch groups.

Here is my (1949) Model 70, .270 Win, Super Gade, restocked in french walnut. I shoots 1/2 MOA groups to 300 yards.

I have zero issues with the new model 70 classics. I currently own three of them.

1998 classic stainless in .270
1998 Classic stainless in .243
2002 Classic supergrade in .270

I also have an FN made Safari Classic in .375 H&H

I also have an FN SPR that except for a little trigger tweaking by me, is bone stock and will shoot handloads into 1/4 inch 5 shot groups at 100. EXCELLENT quality IMO.

I don't have any problems with any of them really . They all are great shooters.

300WSM topped with a VX7

30-06 topped with Zeiss Diavari 3-9X36.

270WSM topped with a Swarovski 1.7-10

9.3X64 built on Winchester Action, topped with a Swarovski 1.7-10

338 Federal built on Winchester Action, topped with a Zeiss Diavari 3-9X36

Yeah, I do like Winchesters, and Featherweights have gripped my imagination. I am currently building a .284 Winchester on a long action Winnie and have a 7X57 Featherweight on the way. What can I say, I like Winchesters.

Brings me to another question. I have located a nice featherweight stick. Has anyone converted a featherweight to go on a sporter. Is it fairly easy?? Just a little work near the action or do you have to modify the whole barrel channel.

The actions are identical. Depending on the barrel profile, you may need to relieve the channel.

I apologise! Mea Culpa! The rifle identified as the 338 Federal is actually my 35 Whelen in a Ruger Hawkeye. Here is the 338 Federal, which I used to tag my moose this past fall.

It is galloping senility that is causing misidentification to reign supreme.

Thanks for the scope information, DrMike. I have a 1.5-5x20 VX-3 on my .338 Federal just for the giant horned, up close and personal Roosevelt elk that we get here in Washington.
