Model 70

Here are a few pictures of my new model 70 sporter 264 win mag. I'm not the best with a camera which will be obvious when you see the pictures but I did my best.

Thanks. I like the wood color and grain. Not so sure about the safety though. I have yet to figure out a way to release it quickly and yet quietly.

That might just be the ticket. I'm not used to Winchester safety's, guess I'm a Winchester virgin so to speak. Always been a Remington man.

Same here. Good looking rifle. Most of them seem to shoot rather well anymore. I'd imagine yours will.

Man that's purdy. That stock is very cool.

You'll get used to the safety. Leave it in the middle position and you're one click away. I like being able to work the bolt with the safety on.

I think you'll come around the the safety Bill. As you know I'm a M70 fiend and mine come off pretty quietly. If you need to be absolutely quiet you can ways grab it and move it.

Beautiful rifle. Looks like great wood on that rifle. Can't wait to see how it shoots buddy. The 264 in a Model 70 is a classic set up.

Lovely rifle, Bill. Course, I do like Model 70s. The three-position safety is quiet and efficient. I've never had an animal run because he heard the safety. I've had a few walk, laughing as they strolled into the dense forest, because I got a tad excited and didn't release the safety.

I have had something worse happen to me, went to flip the safety off and went to pull the trigger and the firing pin fell on an empty chamber. I was taking what should have been a very easy shot broadside at about 25 yards. Did I just admit to such an error???????????? :shock:

Gerry I'm going to run the 140 accubonds.

Good choice, the big 264 WM will be able to move those fast.

Very nice rifle. You'll get used to the safety. When walking around, I always have it all the way back so that the bolt is locked. Then I put it in middle position on stand. When you push it forward to fire, if you sort of push in as you push forward, you can control the fall of the safety and it won't make noise.

My brother's first gun was a 264 wm. Don't ignore Sierra or Nosler BTs in 140 gr as a cheaper more available option. His shot both of those great. Enjoy your new gun.

That Model 70 is very nice :wink:. I picked one up last fall in a 270WSM for my youngest son. He stated it is nice but no better than his BDL.
