Anybody ever used the two? I have a three groove on my 280 AI and really like it, but it has never seen (more than likely never will) see a mono bullet. The new barrel I ordered this week was a three groove as well, and was designed to shoot the ABs like the 280 AI.

Not sure why but, I was wondering about the mono bullets in a three groove barrel. Didn't know if anything changes for the monos as far as load data, and pressures.

Jake,

I don't know about the 3 groove barrels but it might be worth a try. The 7mm E-Tips are available in 140 gr and 150 gr weights.
I have shot the 150 gr E-Tips in my 280 AI and they are accurate. This group went .300" seating the bullet .100" off the lands.

Jake, did you order a 3 groove 270WSM barrel? Just wondering if that is what you planning on building with.

I haven't ever used one (3 groove) so I can't add anything useful, just wonder what you are building? With the accuracy Jim gets out of his 280AI and ET's, I wouldn't mind giving them a try and seeing what they do. I think the 140gr ET's are on sale as 2nds right now. Might give them a try. Scotty

Give it a try. I do not see why it would not work Jake.

Scotty, yeas I got my barel ordered for the 270 WSM project. I went with a Pac Nor #4 stainless super match with six flutes, and I did go with the three groove. I really love the way my 280 AI shoots and cleans up. I ordered it to finish at 25", and told them to get as much weight out of it as they could with the fluting. It should end up weighing about (within .2 oz) as the 24 #2 that the nosler TGRs use. I should have all the funds collected by mid next week to buy my stock (OD green w/ black webbing B&C ultra light), scope (VX-3 3.5-10x40 CDS), and a few little parts. The barrel is 12-13 weeks out so I'm hoping that I'll have it ready to hunt by the end of sept. If not I'll just rock the 280 AI for deer.

Fotis, I'll keep you guys posted if I try them out. I'm a big fan of the ET, but if I can shoot the AB I'm going to. Even if my wife is using my 280 AI fo elk this fall, I think I'll still stick to the 140 AB, but We'll see. The 140 ET would make a decent elk bullet out of the 280 AI as well I guess. I just don't have a long throat so I would have to stuff them a ways back into the case.

I might have to get a bag or two, they are on sale at shooters proshop for like $15.00 a bag. Pretty dang good deal!

Jake,

From what I have seen of the E-Tips, the 140 gr would work well in your 280 AI for elk.
FWIW, the 7mm 150 gr E-Tip OAL is 1.425" and the 140 gr OAL is 1.350".
For reference, the 7mm 160 gr AB OAL is 1.410" and the 140 gr OAL is 1.290".
