Montana Rifle Company?

I was just looking around at their website http://montanarifleco.com/custom.rifles.html and they have an interesting lineup... on the production rifles, the design of the wood stocks leaves me cold... the lines are too Weatherbyesque (Weatherbys are fine, I just don't think the world needs a Weatherby copy... the originals are good enough). No 6mm offered
On the custom rifles, the Wilderness Supreme if friggin' gorgeous!

I agree on the production rifle stock. I wish they would just use a classic stock for those. I already checked on the 6mm Remington for us Kurt! They do chamber it in their custom rifles yes, but I cannot afford one of those so I asked them about the production rifle. They told me that they will chamber the production rifle in 6mm Remington for $100.00 more, so if there is also one of those other chamberings on the list in the custom category, but you would like one in a different caliber not shown, I believe they will do it for you! Did I help sir? :p

Yeah, you need to be the guinea pig for a classy .280!

I would be pleased to be called a pig of any type to get my hands back on a 280 Remington again!

Thanks for the good info all.

Was having daydreams about three matching rifles - just scoped differently:

6mm Rem
.30-06
.375 H&H

Those three and a quality .22 rimfire, and go hunt the earth. The KISS principle, via MRC. It has a certain appeal. I could see a substitution of maybe a .257 Roberts or .25-06 instead of the 6mm Rem...

Now that's just silly Guy throwing out the 6mm Remington so quickly there my friend. Shame on you! I do have to admit though that the Roberts and that other Remington both would fit in that position quite nicely also.

David

Guy you could go a different route with that 3 calibers in the same rifle a slightly different fashion. You KNOW how much you like that Ruger #1 in 375 H&H, well there you go, get a 30-06, and a 6mm, 257 Roberts, or 25-06 in a #1 and you have the same scenario! I am two thirds there actually if I went that route as I have a #1B in 6mm Remington and 30-06, all I need is that third caliber. I wouldn't mind one in 280 Remington at all, but you big bore bullies are going to holler at me here and tell me I need something larger. Maybe a #1 in a 338-06 or 35 Whelen!

Once you go Ruger #1, it's hard to go back!

Just trying reverse psychology on him. The frontal assault isn't working, so I gotta try attacking his flanks!

I was going to keep my $.02 to myself! Two of my big green machine brothers have thrown me under the bus  I had my heart set on the XWR 300 RUM after talking with Montana back in March. Everything that I wanted in a rifle for the Oct elk hunt. Placed the order in March and they said I would have the rifle 6-8 weeks. Great! They knew I had a deadline! 10 weeks later with no word from Montana, my dealer called and found out that it would be August at the earliest before the rifle was assemble. Needless to say the order was canned. I understand things take time but they knew I needed that rifle sooner than ealy September. Would I try another order? Probably not since I can get whatever I want built for just alittle more money.

Exactly!

We have some of their rifles as my wife likes them and to be honest they are well built rifles, look nice and fit her very well. But I personally would just buy one of their locks, which are very good locks in my opinion and build the rifle elsewhere.

They have built rifles for awhile, and they know what they have in the production line when they take your order. So to tell a customer 4 months and take a year is unacceptable, at least to me. If they tell me a year going in and I am willing to wait it is all good. But dont quote me 4 months and take a year, as I will cancel the order and not be back

Consequently, Brian, how's the view from down there? You'll be much happier with one of the Rifleman's Rifles in any case.

I knew you would sneak in the back door on me!

You are right Jerry, if they say it's gonna be four months, then that is how long it should take. Don't say it if it isn't so. Give a guy a realistic date and then the person can decide if they want to go through with it or not.

"Once you go Ruger #1, it's hard to go back!"

Believe me, I've given that some thought too...

The .375 Tropical
A .30-06 Light Sporter

And something real mild, for a multi-purpose varmint/coyote/perhaps deer rifle... Something like the 6mm Rem, .257 Roberts or similar.

That would be a very cool "battery" of single-shot Rugers from which to choose, no doubt.

Guy

Not quite sure what it is either guy, but hunting with the #1 is a little special. Kind of like a muzzle-loader or a single shot .22. I remember my dad telling me as a kid with the .22, you have one shot, make it a good one. You can reload the #1's pretty quick and I've never felt very handicapped in the respect with needing an ultra quick second shot. It seems to be quick enough for me. They are just cool rifles.
