Picked up my Pac-Nor match grade rebarred 700. Looks great deep dark bluing to match the factory finish. Clean it oiled it and chambered resized empty case. Cuts in the mouth and a large dint too. Tried a dummy round and it will not chamber? I just put it away would investagte it tomorrow.

So tonight I will size a few new cases and insert bullets too SAAMI OCL. I will measure the distance from bolt face to lands too. Wish they suppied a fired proof case as Shilen did. Also the barrel had to go to their gun smith to be blued so the barrel is taken off the receiver for bluing so many things could have happed at that time.

If I find I made a mistake some how I will post a big fat happy love my gun post. Just worried till I figure this out.

I would be on the phone with Pac-Nor. Did they test fire it? Is your Dummy Round to SAAMI COL spec?

Wanted to get this out quick. I neck size a few new Rem brass trimed them to 1.390" and set two of them with hornady 45gr spire points at the OCL specified in their manual which is shorter than the SAAMI Spec.

Holding my gun barrel dow drop a empty case in the chamber and then incerted and closed the bolt. I still hand 4-5 tiny dints in the end of the case mouth. I took a bit of effert to get the bolt to cam/close with an snap heard. Open fin and then would close just fin too. Could not really see and of those dints on the case mouth with the dumy round.

Tried my OLD dumy round no go, Ran it through my body bump die and bing fits just fine ( SO THATS MY FALT). Also noticed the gas releaf hole in the receiver was full of glass bedding. Used a small allen wrench to knock it out. That may been a factor as well. Thinking there could be crud making the chamber in the case mouth seem short I used a brush to try to target that area.

I think I have a nice tight chamber any may have a short case neck area in the chamber. Longest new cases were 1.395-1.397" rem and Lapua. chamber the and yes the case mouth dints are still there.

I can trim cases .005" shorter if need be. Or just send it back and Pac-Nor will fix it they will back their work 100%.

Good to know that there's a solution.

Way back in the last ice age when I ordered my first custom barrel, I was surprised when my existing .308 Win ammo (loaded for the prior barrel) wouldn't fit... Grrr... Took all that ammo apart, re-built it, and used it after it was properly sized for the new chamber.

Got smarter about things after that. Started making sure my smith had a few of my cartridges to work with when chambering the rifle.

Small differences in chambers can be a pain.

Think I gonna like this gun now. I have a doe and very new born fawn living in rifle range so I did not sight it in. Took the rifle and cleaning stuff out to a ravine some 1/2 mile away to brake it in with what REM factory ammo I had left. Shot the 1/1/2/3/3 shots cleaning in between with shooter choice MC702. Only took two wet one dry patch to completely clean the bore between shot strings. Break in will be completed as I sight in in next time. Tight chamber with no case expansion above the web as the old barrel did with any ammo. Back at the house I ran some butches solvent to see if any copper was there the MC702 did not remove, NO COPPER at all with ten shots period.

Not only dose the new brass reloads fit as the should but my slightly body bumped reloads as well. My issue reloading for the old barrel was not the length of the shoulder but excessive case diameter expansion. And not very accurate to boot.

So with a slightly less than $1100 total I have a super match grade, blue printed barrel/action/bolt, glass bedded rifle.

Can anyone tell me what protective gunk is put in the chamber/bore before the hot blue them?
That and the Glass bedding in the gas port caused my only real issues. I would post a pic but it looks stock with the deep (black) bluing and factory contoured barrel. Very Happy and I bet it will shoot, I will post some pic's of it's accuracy when I can.

Sounds like a cool rifle TJen. I like those little .224's. Pretty fun little rifles.
