It is a process. It takes a year to buy a truck and I am guessing it will take 6-12 months to buy a rifle. He called about two weeks ago all hot about a Ruger American in 25-06. Then it moved to a TC Venture. Now it is on to a Tikka. The issue is that the one that he wants can not be imported. He wants a stainless barrel and action with a wood stock and can not get one. His last line was, if you see any 25-06 with a stainless action/barrel and a wood stock let me know.

I guess I could mention to him that we could build a Savage.

I just don't understand why buying a rifle takes sooooooooooo long. I would have had that baby broke in by now.

Buy a stainless one, swap for wood stock, problem solved.
This is not rocket science.

Tikka has some stocks on their website, else Boyds makes them. They only list "standard grade" walnut on their site but I know that they do make them with upgraded wood. You just have to call.

I told him to do that. I don't know why he is so hung up on the stock but he is. I just think it is funny that he starts with a $400 American and is now talking $700-800 for a rifle.

I went through The Savage custom shop to get what I wanted. They even Laser etched FOTIS on the SS bolt!

That's going to hurt resale  How many guys named Fotis are there :)

I would venture to be that half the rifles out there have passed through Fotis already. Give him another year or two and he should have the rest of the nation covered

Everyone should own at least one Fotis rifle.

I agree! There is a guy in Colorado who kills elk with it every year!

PS He is not Greek!

WT, He can get one, it is called the M-85 Sako Hunter and sells for $1500. It even looks a little like the Tikka. Part of it may be the conservatism of age as well. It takes me about 3 months to decide on a scope and up to a year for any rifle that meets my expectations. To me part of the experience of buying is that decision period.

I will tell him about the Sako. As far as the Savage custom shop, I mentioned Savage and he said no. I like to pick on him. This is a good process. He is using the computer to learn/read so that is good for him to use technology. I hope he finds what he wants. From there, I hope I can get a load that makes him happy. It is a family joke about how he buys things. It takes forever on everything.

BTW, Tikka is owned by Sako. You may be able to still find some Sako's cheaper but they are not wood stocked.

Well, if there weren't a border between us and if Homeland Security was only a nightmare, I would have owned a couple, I do believe.

If he can afford a SAKO........................ done!
