What back up do you carry when hunting dangerous game? I use a .44 Mag Ruger Redhawk 4" barrel for my back up when hunting dangerous game. I load a 320gr Cast Performance bullet in front of 21.5grs of H110. I use a Mernickle carry holster. Here are some pictures of the Holster, Revolver, Bullet and a Target shot at 25yds six rounds. The small 22LR holes in the target belong to my grandson.

I really like my 4" Redhawk, and you could not go wrong with a Redhawk in 45 Long Colt.

Good looking revolver & leather. Stout load too!

Haven't hunted anything really dangerous. Wild boar - only had one of them come at us. Black bear? They've been dangerous a few times I guess.

I just carry my hunting rifle most of the time. Now and again I'll stick a powerful handgun on my belt too. Not often.

Thanks Guy I do like this revolver and holster rig. Yes, it is a stout load but the Redhawk handles it very well and also Garrett ammo which I have not been able to duplicate in 5 ways. 1. I can not match their velocities and I have tried with different powders. 2. I can not get their bullet since they make their own. 3. I have not been able to penetrate as far in my test media as the Garrett ammo. 4. Every cast bullet I have tried so far deforms more (bends) than does the Garret. 5. You can not do better or find better ammo including Buffalo Bore which I have also tried. There simply is not a better 44 mag load that I have found for my Redhawk than Garrett. I use my hand load when I am out of Garrett ammo because it is expensive and sometimes when I am out of it I don't feel like spending the money.

POP, I like the grip change and I know it really made a difference. My Redhawk is my partner when out in the field for extended times.

Me too. And I love the accessories of the redhawk.
