My first Winchester M70 - not sure it gets any better ?

I have long wanted a 7 X 57 Mauser for the nostalgia of the caliber.

Well, I happened upon a M70 Featherweight which is now topped with a Leupold 2.5-8.

What a nice package. Too nice for hunting some of the rainy season in western Oregon, but I am sure it will find some bear opportunities in the future.

Loaded up some Hornady Interlock 162 gr with IMR-4350 and it shot well.

Thinking about trying some DeepCurl 160 or 175 gr bullets. Thinking black bears at less than 200 yds.

Indeed, those Featherweights are just plain handsome! I know I'm already coming to love my 7X57, and I've only had opportunity to shoot it once, so far. It is the second Featherweight chambered in that cartridge that I've owned, however. Never should have let the other one get away.

Yep, just about perfect. Very nice rifle in a very classy cartridge.

I agree, hard to come up with any way to improve the Featherweight.

Man, I just LOVE the 7x57 Mauser a bunch. With RL17 or W760, you can wing 140's around 2900. The Same powders will easily get mid 2700's or better with 160's. Just a great cartridge and that is a true Featherweight. Great handling in a mild cartridge that just performs. Love it! Great catch..

This may be a start for you AJ: http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?family=001C&mid=535119. I would assume you will see stainless Featherweights appearing on the market within a year or two.

Beautiful rifle and great cartridge. I too wish they still made a stainless featherweight for our humid Calif coast weather. Although, this blue featherweight looks nice.
