You've all seen or heard of the movie Public Enemies which highlights the story of John Dillinger and other period criminals and the G-men who were hired to chase (assassinate) them. I love the movie and of course the guns of that period. Below is a picture of Melvin Purvis' rifle a Mauser 98 sporter supposedly in 8x57mm JS (though in the movie it is clearly 30-06 ammunition in his belt).
I had a fairly nice M48 Yugoslavian 8x57mm Mauser that was an excellent working rifle but didn't shoot that well. Thought about having it rebarreled but that would've been more expensive than it was worth and so ended up trading it off on another rifle which also has since been traded.
These old Mausers sure have a neat look to them...
Now just this 8mm (or one like it) a 358 Norma Mag or 375 Ruger, a 223 Mini 14, a new Remington R100 (1911 clone) 45ACP and I should be set... till 2014 or so...
