Only way to improve on the Whelen is is make it a 338-06 or AI version...

Man, it's ashame to see age hit you Joel like this...

HA...you Whelen guys are way too easy  . The old '06 does make some nice derivitives!

You aren't kidding Joel. A guy wouldn't do too bad with a bunch of 06 based rifles!

Joel that might be the only good thing about a 06 is that you can make it something a whole
lot better :)
If you have the 35 Whelen and the 270 win you have everything covered in North America
As my friend gerry says one Whelen at a time

Blessings,
Dan

I think the one characteristic of the Whelen round that amazes me the most is the on-target energy it can produce, from a non-magnum case without a huge amount of powder being burned. Accuracy is normally reported to be very good to excellent as well.

I have not had the opportunity to chrony my loads but I plugged my estimates into the ballistic program on my computer and the numbers are astounding.

Seems the mate for the 35 Whelen is the 280 Rem. Something not quite as "mainstream" as the 270 to pair with the mystic of the Whelen

orchemo, I believe you are right I would love a 280 with 2 letters behind it AI
I believe then the world would be right for me anyways

Blessings,
Dan

I wonder if you need the AI after the .280 Rem. I was getting 3000 fps with the regular .280 Rem case and the 160 Partition with no pressure signs. That is about what I get with my 7mm Rem Mag and no AI to boot.

Be a nice pair to have and you would always have a good back up. Probably have some extra money for hunting too!
