Pretty soon I won't own a rifle anymore, they will all be turned over to a trust. With the recent laws being passed in Colorado I feel this is the best way to protect my family and my hobby. It irks me to no end to have to do this, but I think it will get us around the "universal" background checks and allow my treasures to be passed down with little burden to my daughter.

There are some talks of recalls since the Democrats ignored the will of the people in Colorado. I only hope it gains traction and we can reverse some of the damage. I just wish I wasn't in California playing Army this month gettingmy unit validated and could have been home to stand at the state Capital.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but posting on my phone is a PITA.

Man, that stinks that you feel compelled to do this. Let us know what comes of this.

Lord help us. Always the good decent people that laws screw.

That's not a bad idea Taylor. Also there have been several meetings to discuss recalling John Morse from Colorado Springs. These guys have all the information www.bfdf.org

No offense intended to anyone, but unless it is an irrevocable trust, you still have a trustee in control and an individual in control and may not have avoided seizure at all. In fact, it merely may become seizure from another entity, just not you. I fail to see the true protection offered. The guns are still " owned", just not by you. Might work in estates but not for legal/outlawed. Even irrevocable won't avoid that.
I would want that vetted by another source or two, were it my possessions.
In the event of illegality, it does not matter "how" it is owned, mere possession by any entity is illegal.
YMMV and JMO.

The new law is all about possession without a background check from what I got from my wife as long as the person with the firearm is listed as a trustee then said firearm is still in possession of the trust. I'm not worried about law enforcement coming to my house and slapping me with a warrant to see my firearms. I'm more worried about when I'm transporting or hunting because as I understand burden of proof would lie with me. As of July 1 when these laws go into effect all intrastate sales, gifts, and inheritance or anytime someone takes possession for longer than 72 hours would require a background check which essentially transfers ownership. Also on July 1 the fee for the background check takes effect which has been estimated to be in the neighborhood of $40 per firearm, which would cost me well over 2K to all of my families firearms into. I'll be able to put all my magazines for my pistols, AR's, and M1 carbine that hold more than 15 rounds as well since I'll no longer be able to legally buy, sell, or gift them in Colorado as well.

I'll be unable to vote in any recalls since none of the legislators are in my district, unless the governor's name gets on the ballot. I'll be pushing for that as well when he signs the bills into law. Because it makes me mad as hell when a Democrat admits even the majority of their parties constituents were apposed to this legislation but they had to pass it to set an example for the rest of the nation. I'm hoping and praying we will get these legislators recalled and replaced to set another example to the nation not to ignore the people.

Got it. My bad.
Thought we were dealing with something else entirely.

These laws, will only penalize those who obey the law, not law breakers

Why are politicians so obtuse that they can not figure this out?

They can see no further than the next election; consequently, they endeavour to please the most vocal constituency rather than seeking the good of the nation. This is why the Democrats in CO are able to ignore the majority of the citizens to enact the restrictive laws they have now put in place.

You may want to look at nolo.com for your trust. You can do it yourself for $90/3 years and add more firearms later if needed. A few of us use it for our suppressor trust.

You cant see the forest because of the TREE in front of you, seems to the thing here.

None of these laws are to help control crime they have but one goal to out law guns period and control the people. Do not be fooled these law makers know full well what they are doing.

Even the bills that have no change of passing serve to test the waters and find what percent would pass it vote for it etc...

If it is true the mililtary oath is now to protect the president and not the US Consitition as it once was, the true intend of the liberals which are actualy progressives that actual progressivly chip away everyones rights. Chip by chip crossed the board of any and all rights we have as the Consitition states we have. If it quacks like a duck looks like a duck its a duck no matter what the duck says it is.
