Picked up my Nosler Custom .280 AI last Wednesday. I have never seen or touched such beautiful wood in my life. I could not shoot Thursday but was able to get out Friday morning before work. With the ammo that comes with the rifle shot 1.5 inches high and 2 inches left. One adjustment yielded perfect windage and same elevation. Proceeded to bust milk jugs at 300 and 500 yards with one shot each using Boone and Crocket reticle. Very pleased.

Wanted to develop best load possible. Using 3150 FPS as the standard to effectively use the scope I experimented with three round batches of IMR 4831, H 4831 SC, IMR 7828 SSC, RL 22, and Vihtavuori N560 with corresponding velocities. This was on Sunday morning with no wind, 40 degrees at 8:00 AM.

Group with RL 22 was right at one inch. With IMR 4831 3/4". With the N560 the first two were in the same hole. I figured if anyone could screw that up it would be me. Nope, the third touched the other two. Group size .265" Velocity average of the three was 3156 FPS.

Not only is it stunningly beautiful it is incredibily accurate. Proud of the product and wanted to share

Good for you! You are, however, making a lot of people envious. Sounds like a great buy.

Just kidding, would like to see pics.

I have one and feel the same way you do.
here are some of my favorite and most accurate loads.
Like you, I tried to stay in the 3150 range to use the retical. my 154gr IB load isn't at 3150 but the higher bc of the bullet keeps it extreemly close to the 140 ab flight path if I use a 210yd zero.

Nosler 120bt - IMR 4350 59.5gr. - Nosler brass - 3.350 coal,- 3138fps - 9.28 S.D. 3/4" five shot group.

Nosler 140gr AB, - H4831sc 62.5grs. - fed 210 - nosler brass - 3.350 coal - 3154fps - 6.60 S.D. 3/4" five shot group

Nosler 140 ab - RL-19 62grs - fed 215 - Nosler brass - 3.350 coal - 3143 fps - 4.41 S.D 1/2" five shot group.

Hornady 154 IB - RL-22 61grs. - fed 215 - nosler brass - 3.350 coal - 3011 fps. - 9.13S.D 1/2" five shot group.

None of these loads shown any pressure signs but start low and work up. Again I was loading to match the retical.

Here is a pic of my National Cash Register

Pop, JD338, Nomosendero etal,

We took some pictures this morning at the range and I can't upload them into #$%&*@* computer. Wife is out of town in Las Vegas and I am lost at the keyboard. She will return Friday. Will shoot again Wednesday evening after work (SPS.)

Do you think that a .280 AI with 140 AccuBond would fix this computer?

Nope it will bounce off like any ballistic tip.

What bullet were you using? It sounds interesting for sure.

Nosler once fired brass that I picked up on BIVWAK, Federal 210 primers, 140 grain Nosler AccuBond, and Vihtavuori N560 powder. ALL of the once fired brass was too long and had to be trimmed, etc. COAL: 3.340"

Shot another quarter inch this evening and metal gongs out to 500 yards using Boone and Crocket reticle dots. Group was three shots at 100 yards.

My 280 AI is on a M700 action blueprinted, Hart #5 fluted 24", Tubb recoil lug, pillar bedded into a LSS stock.

Hi JD338

what kind of velocity are you getting with the 160 & 140 Accubonds?

P.S Lovely rifles guys.

cheers

Wow, those are great looking rifles. That 280AI is a pretty awesome round. They all seem to be like some really great shooters. Scotty

JD,

Outstanding weapon and performance!!! I don't know if my scope will compensate for the trajectory of the 160 AccuBond. I will have to do some research.

The 160 gr AB is 3019 fps and the 140 gr AB is 3240 fps. I never clocked the 120 gr BT, in fact that 3 shot group is the only 3 120 gr BT's that I have shot out out of my 280 AI.The chronograph is a Oehler 35.

Jerry,

I am sure it will be different. You might want to give Leupold a call to plot it out.
