I have been shooting with the Simmons Aetec scopes for the past 8 or 10years. Well as we know they are out of business again. I can find plenty of them new but who will warranty them so I am in search of another brand. I had bad luck 20 or so years ago with Bushnell and there "waranty" ao i have been hesitant to buy one, My wife bought a Burris fullfield II the other day in a 3.5x10x50 and it is a very clear scope and to me it gathers a little more light than my Simmons. I have always been told that the leupold were good but you were paying minly for the name. So this is where I am at. I am looking for opinions as to what to buy. I bought a Browning White Gold Medallion in 7mm Rem Mag the other day and need to put a scope on it. I am going out of town tomm. and returning sunday so I won't be able to look at this till then. But please give me your opinion on what i need. By the way i am not fond of a scope smaller than a 44mm objective. I also handload all my ammo so I am wanting something that will have very good adjustment and would like a fine crosshair. thank you gentlemen and/or ladies for your time.

Buy a Leupold of your choice and be happy! I can assure you your not paying for the name for a Leupold. What you do get though is excellent glass, a very tough scope, and the best warranty in the business, hands down, no questions asked, original owner or not. What kinda shooting/hunting do you do?? What kinda price range are you looking at??

remingtonman25_06 is spot on. Go with a Leupold VXIII. You will be glad you did. Power would depend on what your needs are but the 2.5x8 or 3.5x10 will cover most hunting situations.

If money is a concern and a VX-III is too much, get a good fullfield Burris and never look back. Fantastic warranty, I had problems w/ two binoculars from them as I hunt hard and they let me upgrade to their top-of-the-line Signature series. Don't buy a VX-II Leupold to save money, it's overpriced and has a two-piece scope tube. Also if you do buy a VX-III make sure you look at the reticle before you buy. Recently about 20% of them left the company w/ sloping crosshairs at the ends.

Thanks for the info. I do like the wifes Fullfield II but that is the first Burris in the house. As far as cost i dont want to spend over 500.00 as i have 900.00 in the rifle. as far as hunting - i am hunting mississippi white tail with it. thanks gentlemen

I would go with a zeiss. Clear glass and fine crosshairs. As far as spending money on a scope goes I think if you have a $1000 rifle and you put a $10 scope on it you will end up with a $10 gun. I am not saying a leupold is a $10 scope, they are not, but if you spend the time and money to pick a rifle that suits your needs you shouldn't settle on what ever scope fits the budget. I have bought optics based on what was in my wallet at the time of interest and later have replaced them. As I was sighting in the same rifle again just days before hunting season I thought to myself, I should have bought this one the first time. Then what do you do with the scpoe that you replaced especially when you regret buying it in the first place.

I'm w/ old 7 if you have the money. Zeiss Conquests are on all my rifles. If $500 is you limit, I have one (3.5-10X, 44mm black matte duplex reticle) new in the box sealed I'll send to you for $450 including shipping and insurance. Cabelas wants 589- for the same scope. Way better than a VX-III. Don't want mine, go unto e-bay. You'll find one for around $500....give or take.

If I wasn't biased towards Leupold, gotta support the home state here, I would go with Zeiss as well. Looked through several models one day at Sportsmans Warehouse and was amazed at there clarity and brightness. They just have a lack of "tactical" type scopes for my applications. However, for a regular hunting scope, dang they would be tought to beat..

Zeiss has high profile target turrets on its 4.5-14X, 50mm and 6.5-20x, 50mm and low-profile target turrets available on its 3.5-10X, 44m and 4.5-14x, 44mm. All four of these scopes comes with the Mil-Dot if you want. What's not tactical about these Zeiss scopes? Believe me once you box test a Zeiss, you'll never go back to Leupold. I used Leupolds exclusively for 20 years. Now a Zeiss scope sits atop all my rifles. I'm putting bullets through the same hole (in the mid 1's.) after the test.

When I purchased my Leupold MK4, I was set on it. 4.5-14x50. I guess Zeiss does have target turrets on there higher end power scopes. I didn't look around to much when I bought my MK4. Like I said, I love leupold and they have yet to let me down, sooo I continue to use them. I might have to take a look at that 6.5-20x50 zeiss. I just traded my MK4, for a VX3 6.5-20x50, 30mm, SF, fine duplex. I would like to look through one of those higher end Zeiss, the ones I looked through were the standard 3-9 or 3.5-10. Like I said though, if I do have any problems with a Leupold, I would most definately go with a Zeiss. Whats your opinion on Swarovski vs. Zeiss?? Maybe it was Swarovski that didn't have any tactical type scopes??

Correct, Swarovski doesn't have target turrets and only the upper magnification scopes have parallax. I'm telling you I've been a extreme LEUPOLD diehard for 20 years just ask Pop, but I've had a couple of the high-end Leupolds let me down including the new VX-L. My uncle has been using Zeiss for 30 years and now I finally know why. A Zeiss Conquest and a VX-III aren't in the same league. Give one a try you won't be disappointed, but you might wind up changing out some scopes.

I have and use a Leupold VXII 3-9x40mm scope with the wide duplex reticle. I hunt in Wilkinson & Amite counties in Mississippi.

Hunting in the woods the other evening, in heavy cover, on the ground I could still clearly identify the target and see to shoot through my scope @ 5:30 PM .

How much more clear or bright do you need? I also have a Burris FFII 3-9x40 mm scope and find the Leupold brighter with more eye relief to me.

My experience, FWIW.

Out West a good low light scope comes into its own when trying to distinguish between the buck/antelope/elk you want versus the other ones around it at long range during the last few minutes of shooting time. On a normal scope it's hard to distinguish between the 18 inch 3X3 deer and the 20 inch 5X5 at 350+ yards.

Also need quality optics for hunting the thick cedar swamps in MI. Yoou can run out of shooting light before legal shooting time is over for the day.
The VXIII has never let me down!

Thanks for all the input gentlemen. After hunting over the weekend and looking throught the wifes Burris and our campasters VX-III 6.5x20.40 I have decided to order me a burris. I like the leupold but to me personally i could see better through the burris at dusk. I do like the warranty on the leupold but i have talked to burris and they have assured me that i wont have any problems with there return program. The other factor was the cost f=difference in the two. I couldnt see 400.00 difference in the 2 scopes. I f i dont like the burris when i get it then i will definitely go with the burris. thanks again for your time.

Pro Leupold as most everyone else here as I own seven of them. However if your anywhere close to a Cabela's you may take a look at their Alaskan Guide scopes. I know own two of them and have had great results. One gets beat around on my ATV quite often, the other on my .300RUM. I'd buy another for any hunting rifle !

check out bushnell 4200 models with rain guard I think they can't charge the moeny they are worth because of the bushnell name on them I quite buying leupold scopes in this price range once I got past the name but they still are not as good as 1000$ scope either but for everyday good scope I vote for them
