I am trying to load .45 Colt rounds using the following components and dies. I am having trouble getting the case mouth to flare using the proper die. Also, the bullets seem too long in relation to the groove versus OAL of 1.6". In other words, for me to set the bullet to a cartridge OAL of 1.6", I must seat the bullet above the groove. This then leads to issues attempting to crimp using the appropriate factory crimp die. If I set the seater die to seat the bullet at the top of the groove, I still have an AOL of 1.63" which is greater than the OAL.

LEE deluxe 4 die set
Starline Nickel .45 Colt brass-New Unfired
Hornady .451 240 gr XTP
Wolf LPP
AA#5 at 10 gr

At first, I thought is was the dies themselves but it makes no sense? If you can help I would be grateful. These will be my hog busting loads in a few weeks out of a Uberti .45LC and a Puma lever action.

TIA,

You should be able to bell the case mouth enough to accept the bullet. Do you have room in the die to push the case farther into the die?

I can't speak to Hornady XTP bullet but is the cannular correctly located on the bullet? Maybe try comparing the bullets in the box. Are the consistant?

I will try push the case a bit higher into the die. I am just worried about belling the case mouth so much that the bullet will not fit correctly after it is seated.

The groove on the first 6 bullets I have loaded are all located in the same place.
