Need some opinions on a trade...

I have a 2006 Rem 700 CDL SF... It is the 3006 100yr commerative edition. I am not a collector...just thought with the 24" SS fluted bbl it would make a nice rifle for Muleys/Elk that I try to do every few years.

Last year I sold a mint condition Sako 75 Hunter in .280 to a friend for his first Canada deer trip. He killed a great 240#...160 BC class buck...at 10 yds!!! :shock:

Now he wants to trade me for the Remmy because he feels the Sako is too heavy for all the hiking they do up and down those power lines...

It looks like (checking out Gunbroker etc...) the Sako is still worth more than the Remmy CDL, (especially in a .280) that caliber was disc in the Sakos 5 or 6 years ago.

Would you trade? I am still planning on rechanbering a .280 to .280 AI...this should be a great candidate... What do you think???

If you haven't shot the 30-06, I would think it will become more valuable as time goes by. You may want to consider becoming a collector on that one.

It seems to me you are a Sako guy so maybe you should just make the trade. As you already know, 280 Rem is a sweetheart. :wink:

Unfortunately....I shot the 30.06...

I couldn't resist it!!!! :twisted:

I ran a std load of 57.5 gr of H 4350 behind Hornady 165 SSTs...it shot MOA right out of the box. 8)

Sounds to me like either way you go, you win. The question becomes, do you want the Sako in 280, or would any 280 do? Followed by, do you want the Rem in 30-06, or would any 30-06 do? Once you figure those two out, you're set. The only way you lose is if both rifles become a 'must have' and then you have to find another of the -06's to trade the guy. Also, have you seen what he has done to your Sako toting it through the woods like he does? Maybe you don't really want it back! :wink:

I HAVE DECIDED!!

I will not trade...but sell him the 30.06.

I will take thee proceeds and have the Remmy .280 CDL rechambered to a .280 AI, have a brake added and perhaps a little more accurizing...?

This will give me a do it all rifle with a sweet shooting 7MM 08 CDL already sitting next to it for my U.P. deer gun...

Either your friend or Gander Mt in Wilmont WI... That GM store has a couple of the best Smiths in the country and specialize in rechambering... $95 :shock:

If I do more than that I'll send it to Williams for sure... :wink:
