New Brass Length

Loading manuals indicate the max length for 7mm RUM brass should be 2.840". I always run new brass (Rem. of course) through my sizer die & check the length. I find that some are shorter than 2.840" & could be anything from 2.837" on up. Is this a problem & can it affect accuracy :?:

You got me confused. If max length is 2.840 then you'd want to trim to 2.830. So your new brass is right between min and max length which is perfect. It won't affect accuracy at all if they are off a couple thou here and there.

Consistancy is always a key ingredient for accuracy.
I would trim all your cases to the min 2.830" and start from there.
It may not actually have much, if any, effect on accuracy but it sure would make me feel better knowing that the cases are all the same length.

This is interesting, the Nosler #6 shows 2.850 for max, but Hodgdon's 2008 manual indicates 2.840 for the max. Anyway, I went with the Nosler data, but since I use the RCBS X F/L die, I trimmed .020 (per the RCBS instructions) for a 2.830 case length.

Guy's, my apologies  I had a brain fart, I guess  I meant trim length is 2.840, not max length.

I would'nt worry about it.
Some one here may feel different about it, but I try to trim my brass to the same length.
I sometimes end up trimming a couple a little to short before I get my trimmer set just right. Never caused a noticable difference in acuracy.
I am talking a couple of thousadths here and I supose If I were shooting in a match I would pay more atention to it.
But for game hunting I think its not worth worying about.
Why not put a mark on the primer on the short ones so you will know when you shoot ones witch ones they are , then you will know.
You might even find your individual rifle likes that length better.

tjRoberts, thanks for your input. I think trimming to the same length is the way to go. Presently, anytime I have a cartridge that is abnormally short, I do mark the base & use it out of a clean bbl. before sighting in :)
