i think i have the 30-338 win sold i had built last year am going a different route. been reading about the 300 norma "basically a shortened 338 lapua" and am going to order a bat action after the 30-338 sells. will be using the 230 berger with a .743 bc this case should get 3000 fps. i am thinking a 1-9 maybe a 1-8 twist barrel on this and an accuracy international stock. any of you messed with the 300 norma would like to here any reports good or bad.

There is a lot of info on it over on Snipers Hide. Basically it's a shorter fatter .300 RUM. I thought about building one but it's really not enough of a improvement over my .30-8mm to justify. I'll probably do a .30-.338 Lapua Imp instead.

It sounds like a beast Jeff.. That bullet screaming out at anything over 2900 should be able to reach just about anything..

Jeff, you may be the first around here with that particular build. I have no doubt that many of us will watch your progress with real interest.

I had a magazine (since passed on to Scotty, I think) that had an article on the .300 Norma, it looked pretty interesting.

Jeff,

Sounds like a cool project.
Something tells me it is going to be a shooter.

the reason i am going to build is solely for the fact it will run up near ultramag velocities yet fit comfortably in the magazine with the 230 berger level with the neck and not intruding into the case capacity, and because its different. have read good reports about the accuracy as well.

Jeff -
What actions are you using for the 22-47 Lapua and 6-47 Lapua?
they are all going to be run off the same platform as the the 6.5x47. thats the beauty of a integral recoil lug a go gauge a gunsmith and your in business hapeen to have both at my disposal. joel as i mentioned to you on the phone about the sponsorship i wont be using a bat on the 300 norma it will be an action that is built in the bitteroot, pretty good deal having components at cost and free gunsmithing that will help alot. will let you know when they get online and figure out a name for there business. also ordered an elite iron suppressor for the 47 lapua family.

I've actually considered building a .375 on the .338 Norma case just for that reason too. A lot of my other guns I just shoot single shot or one in the feed ramp and one in the chamber with heavy VLD's.

been there on the single shot scenario thats why i am heading in the other direction this will be used in matches so the magazine will be mandatory.

i think that was in the sniper annual magazine i read that kind of what gave me the idea i think he was running his own with a 1-8 and 20 inch barrel although the test rifle was a 26 inch and he said that 3000 fps was doable with the 230 but i am not going to overstress my stuff to achieve that if it likes 2900 or a little better that is fine with me one ore more clicks on the scope is not a big deal. my 6.5-284 6.5x47 30-338 all seem happy running in the 2950-300fps range.

i just bought a krieger heavy varmint 30 cal 1-10 twist from brunos 1.250-.900. still debating on using a accuracy international stock or staying with the more familiar mcmillan A4. concerned about changing the hand position with the AI stock.

kind of what i am thinking i really like the mcmillan vertical grip which i have on most of my rifles the only exception is the htg on my 30-338 hunting rifle.

am thinking i will use the A-5 my 6.5-284 is sitting in right now the barrel is getting to the point of needing replaced will be shooting it at the f class match this weekend "at leasst one string" for its final send off. going to put a lilja tactical on that and put it in an a3 sporter for hunting purposes. the action should be built here in the next couple weeks for the 300 norma so waiting on a reamer and we should be in business within two months right about the time the 230g bergers will be back in stock looking forward to getting the 300 norma built and shooting a match and a antelope with it.

Just a couple of questions, Jeff:

What is the mag box length on the BAT?
Are you going to be running a DBM? If so, which one?
Do you think 1-10" will stabilize the 230 Berger?
Did you decide between the Mickey and the AICS?

not going to use a bat on this using a action that is built in the bitterroot a rem 700 footprint with another right bolt left port set up like my bat, i have a little bit of a sponsorship now so i will get it at cost which will help. i am going to run a dbm he is building that as well as the action and it will take ai mags. brian litz said a 1-10 will stabalize the 230 and he designed the bullet so i will take his word for it. my 6.5 284 barrel is almost dead so i will take it out the mcmillan a-5 and use that for the norma build. going to buy another a3 sporter and a smaller barrel for the 6.5-284 and use that for hunting since the 6.5x47 is doing so well at the matches. i have 600 pieces of 6.5-284 lapua brass sitting around so i cant not build another one and for deer elk and antelope the 6.5-284 is tough to beat.

Looking forward to seeing this action for the rifle. It is nice to know we have options for actions besides the big names that seem to get more expensive every time you order one. I'm sure you will find a way to make sure all of us get the same kind of pricing you get on the actions :p !

Did you decide on a barrel for the 6.5X284? You should look at the Bartlein barrels if you haven't yet.
