new build in the works

You will have to pass along info/web link to the manufacturer when he gets his ducks in a row...

Looking forward to seeing this action for the rifle. It is nice to know we have options for actions besides the big names that seem to get more expensive every time you order one. I'm sure you will find a way to make sure all of us get the same kind of pricing you get on the actions :p !

Did you decide on a barrel for the 6.5X284? You should look at the Bartlein barrels if you haven't yet.

Joel, I might need you to call your smith about the rifle I am thinking of putting together for me. What do you think the odds of him doing some work for me would be?

I need some ideas for barrels as well.

Steve will be able to take care of you Scott. He needs to get my build done before you get anything done though :p . We will talk about barrels...everyone has their favorites, but from talking to Steve and a couple other guys that build tactical and F-class rifles, they really like Brux and Bartlein barrels. You can either order it to your specs and wait 6 months or find what you want through one of the retailers and pay an extra $15 bucks. I am planning on ordering another 6.5 barrel from Bartlein this summer so I don't have to go through the mad scramble to find a barrel next time I need one.

I was really surprised to find out how even the top barrel manufacturers do contract work for government agencies and resellers on a monthly basis. Speaking to Frank at Bartlein last week, they had just received an order for 150 barrels for the FBI (all 30 cal). This was one gunsmith that was building all of them. Not a bad pay day for him, I'm sure.

i bought a krieger for the 300 norma but i think i will stick with the lilja for the 6.5-284 both of the barrels i have from them in 6.5 have worked very well.

I will have to start looking into barrels soon I think. Figure I might as well order one up being as it seems like they take quite awhile. Are there any barrel makes better than others for the 338's?

Krieger bartlien lilja from what I have seen is what I would use without hesitation

I would use a Schneider in a heartbeat too. My most accurate .338 Baer is a Schneider and everyone I've had have been exceptionally accurate.

I've had a couple bad Lilja's and I had a buddy get a barrel from Lilja that looked like a jump rope. The bore was .030" to .040" off from one side to the other. Lilja's response was "It's within specs". I haven't used another Lilja since and doubt I ever will again. There are too many other good barrel makers out there.
