Finally got to do a little shooting through the Pro Digital Chronograph today with my .280 Steyr. The load of 59.5gr of RL-19 and the 120BT was very disappointing @ 3,052fps. However, I did load up some RL-17, Fed 210GM primers and the 120BT and was very impressed.
58.0gr RL-17= 3,267fps
58.5gr RL-17= 3,308fps
Both loads did not show any signs of pressure so now I can see what groups I can get out of it.

My Vanguard .257 Roy averaged 3,632fps with the 100gr TSX and RL-22.

My .308 load of 130gr TTSX and 50.5gr of RL15 was disappointing as well 3,055fps but it does shoot under 1/2"!

Overall, I love my Pro Digital and I am looking forward to working up a load for the 120 BT using RL-17. I wish I had bought this chronograph sooner.

Nice results!
I know what you mean, a chronograph is a must have.

That is interesting with that RL-17.
I am curious how it might do in your .308. I am not to sure you should be dissapointed that .308 load though.
How much speed were you hoping for ? That bullet and a half inch group at 3000+ is a darn good open country load , for a .308.
we all have our ideas about what we want from our rifles.
I am a .308 nut , and I also have a .257 weatherby.
as long as i have the .257 for open country, I have little motivation to try to make a bean field rifle of one of my .308s.
I generaly like 165 grain bullets , in the .308. But if a rifle has a strong preference for a 150 grainer thats ok too.
If your real fast .257 weatherby load disapoints you in acuracy , you might try Ramshot magnum.
My 26 inch remington .257 weatherby is not as fast as your 24 inch vanguard , but 3550 is plenty fast and i get half inch groups !.

....................59.5 gr. RL19 gets ya 3052 fps while 58 gr. RL 17 gets ya 3267 fps!!!! Another 215 fps with 1 1/2 grains less powder and no excessive pressure too!!!....WOW!!!

Ok boys!!! Now I`m really gettin pissed, because nobody in So Cal has this stuff yet!!...LOL!!! LOL!!!!.......

I've had RL17 on order since last summer. It isn't in Canada yet. The information that has been published does look interesting.

Very interesting indeed that RL-17, nice results. What was the accuracy like with each cartridge you tried it in. Also, what was your accuracy with the RL-22 in the 257Wby.

My good friend owns a large gun store and has finally started expanding his reloading department. I have been on him about getting more primers, powder, and a broader range of bullets etc. So he has gotten every kind of powder, and primer out and stock piling it since it is getting harder to find. I asked if he could get me some RL-17 and he called me back and said he had a case on the way. I am going tomorrow and getting another pound of the RL-17.
I only shot the RL-17 for speed, I am going to work up some loads using both the 58.5gr and 58.0gr loads and go from there. I will post my results.

My .257 accuracy results were very good as you can see below, sorry pic is blurry;

Nice results. I confess my ignorance of the 280 Steyr. Could you give me some information concerning this calibre? Perhaps you could direct me to a site that gives me some information?

Outstanding TN, cool, great accuracy and outstanding velocities all in one. That is what I like. Thanks for the pictures. I will be looking for some of that RL-17 to try in my 06 and will also try some more RL-22 in my 257.

When I refer to my .280 Steyr it is a Steyr Prohunter rifle chambered in the .280 Remington.

Well, you certainly had me going. I looked online, and actually found some references to 280 Steyr, but all were in German and my German is non-existent. This makes the data you present even nicer as the 280 is a favourite calibre for me.

I sure wish my shooting was as disappointing as yours!
