Having a custom built hunting rifle in 7x57mm. Here are some initial specs but not finalized yet. Jerry Herbison is going to build it for me. Since I have a lot of German in me and my wife is from east Germany, and we like German stuff, this rifle will fit right into my style of shooting and hunting.

Specs are subject to change if Jerry says something must change. I will up date any changes. I am really excited about this rifle and cartridge. It will fill a weak spot in my battery and will also be old school blued/wood Being the hand loader that I am, this cartridge is perfect for me because it comes into its own with hand loads. I have seen Jerry's work and shot one of his latest builds on a Mauser action and he builds an accurate rifle.

Shilen chrome-moly match grade barrel

about 24" from the boltface

98 Mauser action

The twist 1-9".

Timney Sportsman trigger

Model 70 style 3-position safety on the gas shield

The action will be pillar-bedded on aluminum posts, and the chamber area of the barrel and the front of the action ahead of the magazine gets glass-bedded.

Scope base and mounts will be Leupold or Redfield, with the action-bridge single piece mount and twist-in front ring, and windage-adjustable rear ring.

Richards Microfit stock in either American Black walnut, or English walnut, with rosewood forend tip and grip cap. A 1/2" thick solid rubber recoil pad and Monte Carlo cheek piece.

Hand-rubbed oil finish, of course!

Sounds like good one to me, with one exception. If it were mine, it would have Burris Signature or Sig. Zee rings.

Sounds like a great build, congratulations Mike.

Yep, I am going to have fun with this one and I am really looking forward not only to the load work but taking it into the field. I want something that is blued/wood and a 98 Mauser and German cartridge. Just to use one that certainly has had a colorful history and I plan on adding to my history of load development and hunting with a cartridge I have never owned, but always wanted, and the icing on the cake is the 98 Mauser action.
