New To Me 30-06 Loads

I've played with H4350 in the 30-06 some but I use Winchester brass and a Remington M700. I use a BDL and a Classic, both rifles having 22" barrels. The bullet though was the Hornady 180 gr. Spire point. I did work up to a hair over 2800 FPS with 58.0 gr. H4350. he BDL was made in 1978 and the Classic in 1981 IIRC. Bullets were seated to the cannelure for both rifle and Winchester WLR primers used. I had no problem with apparent pressure and cases lasted normally. Both rifles run somewhat lighter than the Mausers I normally use so recoil was bit more stout but other than that, everything worked out beautifully.
I was doing the work up load for use in the 30-06 so I could use the rifle as a back up to my .35 Whelen on my elk hunts. As it turned out, it was one of my Mauser customs in 30-06 that saved the day when scope turned toes up. The bullet was the 165 gr. AccuBond and the combo worked just fine on my cow elk. My only complaint is I wasn't able to recover the bullet which didn't leave an exit wound. I'm thinking it was buried in the mess that was the cow's left lung. If I get to do another cow hunt, I think I'll try that load again and use the Whelen for back up. FWIW, that was the third scope it trashed. Leupold fixed or replaced every one of them but now they're n rifles of lesser power and recoil. here's a Nikon 3x9 on the .35 now and if it gets trashed, no big deal and Nikon no longer honors their warrantee on gun related accessories.
