I just saw that Weatherby is introducing a new cartridge on 1-7-2026. I'm thinking a 7mm RPM.
A 30 RPM would also make sense. What do you guys think?

If sticking to their RPM case, either would fill the gap...a 27 cal may also be possible, but the one of the other two is more likely...

The 7mm seems like it’d be a shoe in, in today’s world but it’s a crowded stage.

The case really is everything an Ackley is and then some so I can see a lot of wildcats coming from it.

I Totally agree with you and the plethora of 7 mm cartridges that we have available today. It’s almost bordering ridiculous how many are out there to promote the sale of a new rifle.

For Hornady it’s to promote their brand of ammunition. Nosler’s versions of their cartridges was already the brainchild behind Weatherby firearms, and their ammunition. Which you gotta admit, they were probably the first to really do it successfully.

For most of my life I found it difficult to locate Weatherby brass at stores around the country. Now it seems Hornady owns that market compared to everyone else, although the custom brass makers are doing the bulk of the sales online to hand loaders. i.e. Alpha Munitions, ADG, and Peterson.

For me or anyone who travels to hunt I think it’s always useful to own a firearm that ammunition is available worldwide in case your ammo goes MIA.

It’s clear though Weatherby is getting away from its double radius shoulder and the belt in their cartridge line lately. Which is a good thing IMO.

I will say that I really do like their rifles that are now produced in Wyoming. Great range of products to suit just about anything’s needs.

The .257 Wby. was Roy Weatherby’s favorite cartridge, so that would make sense.

I’ve built a few wildcat .257’s in the last few years so this will be interesting to see what happens.

Let’s not forget it’s the hunters skill at hunting, his ability to shoot well, and the bullet to finish the job….. I’d have to thank John Amos Nosler for his work coming up with the Partition bullet in that regard, and later when he came up with his Ballistic Tip design. As well as Bob Nosler for continuing down that path making one great bullet at a time!

Well Cole you were absolutely bang on. A 25 RPM just dropped. Looking through Weatherby’s site it seems a modern day 257 Weatherby magnum in performance but with a rifle that will hold 5 rounds. I am sure the internet will be a buzz about not needing a new cartridge. 😉
