Me and a buddy attended our local Deer Association banquet tonight and put a bid on a four day stag hunt in New Zealand. It's an $8,000 hunt for 2 people and 2 stag in the 260-290 SCI range. The final bid was $2,500 and me and my buddy won it. There's an up charge of $2K for SCI Silver and $4K for SCI Gold if you decide to upgrade.. There's also other animal in the menu. The hunt will be between February and July of next year. Plenty of time to get ready. I can't wait.

Rommel,

That is great! What an opportunity. Man, that couldn't happen to a greater fellow. Congratulations.

Very cool. Everyone I've met from New Zealand has been a terrific person. Friendly & intelligent. From the photos I've seen, it's an incredibly beautiful place too.

Best of luck on the hunt, and am looking forward to your hunt report & photos!

Which rifle will you take?

Guy

Congrats DF!! My daughter lives with a Kiwi in Taiwan and they will be moving there in 2014 to live. We have already discussed some hunting trips once they get settled in... .

Where on the north island will you be hunting and who will the outfitter be?

Joel, The outfitter is Neil Mercer of Kanuka Wilderness Hunting. They're in Pahiatua, NZ.

Thank You DrMike.

Man it must be the signs of time. We're in economic doldrum here in the state. There were at least 100 people that attended the banquet last night but they're having a hard time auctioning the African and New Zealand hunt. We could have gotten the hunt for 2G but the organizer begged for an extra $500 from us. It's for a good cause so we agreed. Heck, me and my buddy was willing to chase it up to 4G.

Rommel,

Congratulations buddy on an awesome hunt!

Guy, I have seen the type of terrain they have down there and it begs for a light carrying rifle. The stag is no bigger than a muley, so any of my deer rifle will do. My 300 Weatherby Acumark would have been perfect but I just sold the darn thing (been thinning the herd) So it will be a toss up between the 300 Win Mag Model 70 loaded with 165 grain Nosler AccuBond, the Remington 700 6.5-284 Norma with 140 grain Berger Hunting VLD or the 280 Remington Mauser (sentimental favorite) shooting the 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. What do you think guys.

Either of those rifles will perform flawlessly, I should imagine. They are cartridges I would choose in a heartbeat.

Congratulation on the trip!! I can wait for stories & photos. You guys will have a hoot!

Blessings,
Dan

DF,
Go get'um buddy. Good luck and good hunting. I didn't know that muley's are that big. But then again we don't have any here so I have never seen one. We got to get some here to hunt.
