Nilgai ?

This seems like it would be a fun and challenging hunt down in Texas...

Are the bulls as tough as I've heard? Like it's best to go at them with deep-penetrating bullets and a reasonably powerful rifle...

Is the meat as good as I've heard? Good from both bulls and cows?

Thanks for any input, I've never hunted them.

Guy, I would like to suggest you talk to Greg Simons. He owns Wildlife Systems Inc. I have never met nor hunted with him nor hunted Nilgai. I know him via his reputation and long time in the business here in Texas. Here's his website: https://www.wildlifesystems.com/ His Nilgai hunts are in the Rio Grande valley area here in Texas between Raymondville and McAllen Texas.

He also has a YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@wildlifesystems/videos

I wish you the best and have a great hunt.

Paul - this looks like your first post on the Nosler forum. Welcome aboard! Pretty friendly and helpful place here. Heck, I've been posting here for nearly 20 years and some folks were here before me, and are still here!

Regards, Guy

Take an 06 with a 180 or a 375 with a 260 and out to 300 and a little you hold the same to hit the 8 inch vital zone. I had a buddy in high school. People often thought we were brothers. I played football at about 165, he played at 205. We had both been tank tested for body fat, both at or below 5% at those weights. We both ran the 40 in 4.9 and change. We both stretched the tape at 5’10”. I tackled people in cloud of dust. When he hit people they didn’t always get up. Kinda like comparing an 06 to a 375. :)
