No Love for the 7 Mag?

Maybe I'm using the wrong powder in it since I have yet to see 3000fps out of the 160 AB .

I haven't had much trouble getting over 3000 with H1000, 7828, 22, 25 and 4831. How far have you ran it up? Even then, 2900-2950 won't be noticeable on game or even trajectory.

Try Retumbo.

Oh yeah. That one too

TD284, I've got an 8 twist 5R Bartlein on the MSM.

my accuracy load for the 160 AB is with H1000 running 2980fps and is a good 2grs short of max but it shoots right around 1/2".
I may play with something else after the season but right now I have my hunting loads dialed in for this year and don't plan on changing anything though I have plaed with other combos just to keep from getting bored.

That is plenty fine for anything you might hunt in North America, Rodger. Ample velocity and excellent accuracy with a great bullet--what more could you want?

There isn't anything pip squeak about the 7 Rem Mag. I know you love the 30-06 and don't think the same way and there isn't anything the 30-06 will do that a good 7 loaded similarly won't do a little better at distance. No offense to the 06 as it is a great one, but the 7 Rem is popular cause it works.
No worries Buddy I'm not easily offended and know everyone has there own choices.
The 7Rem needs to grow on me I have been a one rifle one caliber hunter for a long time.
The 35/AI was my first over .30 caliber and it opened my eyes to a new world.
Yeah I had a 300Bee that I worked with but it gave me headaches when I shot it so it went down the road.
Strange that I ended up with a 338Win since the recoil potential is greater then the 300Bee but I don't seem to mind it as much even with heavier bullets.

Amen, 2980 and a 160 AccuBond will EASILY tackle anything that you would use an expanding bullet for. Plus it has some serious legs on it as well. Hence the reason I LOVE my Mashburn since it does the 160 at 3200 but doesn't seem to beat me up like a larger cartridge would. I'd be just as happy with a 7 Rem running your same load though. I use the Mashburn cause I dig it's history, not because it's really better than anything else.

At nearly 40, I've taken enough bigger animals to realize it really isn't the cartridge or caliber we shoot, it's the bullets we use that really make the difference.
