Is norma MRP powder temp stable? Im looking for a powder for my 280AI and it has to be temp stable. Great velocities, going to go with 140 to 160 grain bullets.

Online research says it is temp stable...but I haven't actually shot any yet...not much help now, but in a few weeks/months I will know all about MRP in the 280 Ackley and 270 Win.

I have 12 pounds of it to be used in my 280 Ackley (150 ABLR's), my wifes 270 (140 Accubonds), my friends 270 (140 Ballistic Tips)...looking for 600 yard deer loads for the 270's, and 800 yards with the Ackley.

Its an old powder, been around a while, lots of people who do use it swear by it.

Norma 204 is worth a look for 120 grain bullets, if you ever felt the need for bullets that light...

The Norma powder is in mutch used here in scandinavia.
we use it in 270W, 7mmRM, 3006Spr, 6.5x55, 300WBYM, 6.5-06, 240WBYM
I use MRP in 270W fore bullets from 120 grains to 150 grains.
Latest load with MRP:
120 grains barnes X= 64 grains, Brass- Lapua (1130M/s, 26" barrel, remington sendero)
58 grains MRP, ABLR 150 grains, 270, brass- Norma. (930m/s, 27" barrel, remington sendero lilja barrel)
130 grains TTSX, 61 grains, 270W. (970m/s- 22" barrel, kongsberg Lakelander 389)

It is a great powder for 6.5x55

I have been using MRP in my old 7mm Rem Mag. Excellent speeds with the 150 Scirocco. Getting nearly 3200 out of that bullet and accuracy has been excellent. Haven't had any real problem with FPS variation due to temperatures, but I am sure there is a little.

If I ever find Norma powders here in the north, I will run them in a few tests. They do intrigue me; but, then, so does every new thing that appears.

I used it in place of RL-22 when RL-22 became scarce (it is the same powder, but is first run). It has a little variability in lot-to-lot (so does RL-22, of course) but no problems with temperature sensitivity.

I use it in an assortment of 6.5x55's.

I bought 2 more I pounds of it today (locally)....fired a few 270 loads with MRP yesterday....blistering speed and showing some very real accuracy potential....using 140 grain AccuBond bullets.

Interesting. A lot of people report very obvious temperature sensitivity with RL-22.

We still use the heck out of it, particularly in the 6mm Remington, where it is by far and away the best powder we've ever tried. The RL-22 that is.

I've had several ballisticians, names readily recognised--both American and European, tell me that MRP and RL22 are the same powder. My own studies would indicate they likely know what they are speaking of. I've never had a problem with RL22 in cold conditions. I do verify my loads at or near the temperatures I will be hunting, however, regardless of the powder.

Looks pretty good. Any difference between the two that you could observe? Great shooting!

No, did not see any different behavior between RL22 and MRP.
The problem was more bad shooting- slippery, cold not get the front rest not to slid forward, bad recoil handeling.

If you get a chance, redo this test with the same load at 70 degrees

Make note of the elevation adjustment required for the different temperatures.
