What powders might give me 2750-2800 with the Barnes 210 TTSX? Also QL Data of 63K for the Hammer 175gr? I'll take what my rifle will safely give me, but I'd like to know which powders ( preferrable Temp Stable) can get me there around 63K and velocity goal? 24 bbl. I use Winchester and Lapua cases. My Lot of Lapua has tight primer pockets, so I can only use the CCI 250 Primer with Ball Powders. Would someone mind running this for me, pretty please....(don't make me say "sugar on top"!!! Please! :) )

When I started working loads in my 338-06,I found that stepping up that bore size of my 30-06 case from 30cal to 338cal,I had to look more towards what powders I would load in my 308 Win instead of what powders I was loading in the parent case 30-06.Both those cartridges, the 308 Win and 30-06 as they are,use up most of the powder room in the case they way they are,so in order to get more velocity out of that 30-06 case in a 338 your going to need a faster powder.Every powder I tried with the burnrate between Varget and Win 760 seemed to be ideal in the 338-06.

Thanks Tex! I found that similarity in loading for my old 35 WAI. I just figured it was because it's case "was almost cylinder", i.e., .444, kind/sorta. I had just read alot about the 338/06 way back from Elmer K, and was wondering if H4350 (which I always felt 760 was similar to) gpt any speed. I figure anything I get from 2500-2700 is Jim Dandy for this round, but I like to see what my rifle will give me. Thank you again guys!

Tex- I started loading for that 35 WAI back in '95. I went right by Barnes very first Load manual, standard 35 Whelen data for their original "X" bullets then ( all they had) I found 2015-BR worked swell with their 250X, took it to South Africa in '96. Awesome killer ( ala 9.3x62) following year I tried their 200X. I could not get it to shoot with any powder they listed except the last one - H322. I always knew that was a great 222 Bench Rest powder, and I couldn't wrap my head around it, but my rifle ( a rechambered 700 Classic Whelen) loved it, shot bug holes! Later on, I started playing with the 9.3x62 ( I blame Finn Aagaard for that!) But I never saw anything with it I couldn't do with my Whelen AI. Of course, now I know why...my fave loads all ran about 72K, ha. But I had a good Wildcat run...and what is Wildcatting "without a little pressure"? Right? :)

Just for grins I seated a fired primer in a new, reformed Winchester 06 case, poured in 64.4gr (QL 63K+ for 3031fps guesstimate) R17 , seated the 175 HH to 3.33" (my magazine clearance C.O.A.L., and it was only lightly compressed! It came up halfway into the neck. Of course, my rifle will tell me if I can work up that far, but I was surprised it fit! Hot dog!

P.S. This charge is only 56K according to QuickLoad, not 63K Lots of ooomph, less pressure.

Look how close you are with this Lee chart.Lee manual shows the useful case capacity of 4.39cc for the 338-06.Then look at their dipper chart. The largest one they have is 4.3cc.For Reloader 17 it shows 61.7grs.The smallest dipper the have is .17cc.It shows 2.4grs.To keep it simple, lets just divide that amount in half it equals 1.2grs.Add 61.7grs to1.2grs and it comes out to 62.9grs of useful case capacity using Reloader17.People sometimes knock Lee stuff, but I really like their dies and their manual.Their load data is just copy and paste from other manuals, not their data.So it's showing a lot more loads than most other manuals.I guess one thing the others don't usually show is useful case capacity in cc's.I guess one has to look back at how Lee started reloading.Everything was done by hand with everything you needed in a little simple box.The cc chart in the back of the manual makes a quick reference on how much powder you can put in a case.It also shows you how much different in weight by volume different powders are.338-06 case.jpgLee dipper chart.jpg

Amazing Tex! I have always liked/enjoyed using Lee products. I take my time reloading, weighing each charge, and seldom load more than 20 ,at most , at a time. So setting my LEE dies has been zero problems for me.

If I'm understanding the QL right, you can set it up for say 63k,but some of the powders fall short of 63k if the reach case capacity before that pressure is achieved.Based on that,Reloader17 was not up to that pressure at 110% case fill
Alliant Reloder-17 *T 110.0 64.3 4.17 3031 98.5 56362k pressure

Again! Why doesn't people get on Barnes site for data! It does have ttsx210 listed.
