Hi Folks,

what is the best seating depth for the .30 cal. 180 grs. Nosler AccuBond, in a .300 Win.Mag. ?

So far I have tried .03" off the lands, with not so great results.... :(

Maybe the poor performance does not depend on seating depth, though....and that's why I am asking the question.

Thank you

I have had the greatest success seating AccuBonds around 0.100 inches off the lands. They do appear to enjoy a jump to the lands that will approximate what monolithic bullets prefer.

I hear you Doc !

I will adjust the seating depth accordingly and run the same charge...

Will post the results !

Thanks (y)

Berger has a solid method outlined here:

It works with other bullets too, not just Bergers.

This is how I do it.

Here's some actual results:

I didn't even shoot the longest loads.

FYI, if and when you try this method, shoot the shortest bullets first. If you find accuracy short you can resize the longer bullet. The other way, not so much.

I've always used long jumps with Accubonds. Up close they weren't bad, just not as good.

jager, have you tried a different powder if the accuracy issue persists? What powder are you currently working with?

I am not sure on seating depth but 74.5g of h4831sc is my best accuracy.

Some updates....

Went to the range with the suggested Seating Depth (0.1" Jump) with three different loads.

Here's the best group, obtained from 79 grs. H1000 - 3 shots @ 185 yds.

Nothing fancy but good enough for hunting, I'd say....
