Loading for a .223 Rem AR-15, 20 in. bbl, 1 - 9 twist. Total novice at
this small case rifle cartrige loading business. I just bought 300 nosler
brass and 300 nosler 60 gr partician bullets. Trying to decide on powder
and primer choices. Like what I read about Benchmark and Varget in this
cartridge: consistency over temperature range is important and both of
these are reputed to burn clean and provide good accuracy. Which is
better? Should I buy pound of both and see which one the rifle likes?
What are some recommendations for the best primer? Both of these
powders pretty well fill the cases, and I will hunt coyotes in December
in Utah, so the temperatures will be low; do I need a magnum primer?
Given the limited choices in the stores, I may have to "make do" with
whatever they have, but I would appreciate you recommendations for
which primer you think is actually the best one, and also the best one of
those that the stores have in stock. Thanks!
