Last evening I started to prep some new Nosler 30-06 cases for the first loading. There was an open box and a recently purchased box available. Upon weighing 10 cases from the new box I noticed a heavier weight, 192.9 grains, than I remembered from the last loading from the open box, 180.2 grains. This is an average of 10 cases each, weighed on the calibrated scale from my Chargemaster.

Exterior dimensions were very close, so my suspicion is that the 12.7 grain difference in weight translates to a significant difference in internal capacity. If intermixed it must be a factor in load performance. Just pointing out what I suspect to be an area to keep an eye on when trying to maximize load performance. Being unaware of the different case capacity if loading near max for best velocity may affect one's safety.

Rol always check the H2O cap on new brass and adjust your load accordingly. I would also check it again after the first firing since the brass will be fire formed.
I try to avoid using virgin brass for hunting because of the cap difference.

That seems to be a significant difference in weight. What does that say concerning quality control of the product? Perhaps a sourcing problem?

I stopped buy their brass after the bunch of 338 win was over SAMMI specs and held over 3 grains more water then Winchester brass and the SAMMI specs.
I think this all started when Nosler acquired Silver State Armory and QC went down hill from there.
I would get as many bad pieces from Silver State as I did Winchester so I couldn't see paying the difference if I was going to get less for more.

Are the head stamps the same, check out what i noticed with some nosler factory rounds i picked up and some SSA brass i got on sale for my 260
The SSA and nosler trophy grade(middle) both have .260 rem and deeper/similar stamp
The nosler custom ammo just has 260 rem and not stamped as deep.
As for timing, haven't bothered to reference lot numbers or anything, i bought the SSA brass at sportsman's just over a year ago but was on sale so don't know how long it was on the shelf, same time frame for the nosler trophy grade 125 partitions 2 boxes sitting on a shelf for $25 at a ranch supply store(couldn't pass up at that price but has turned out to be a waste, they would group for anything)
The nosler custom 140gr partitions I picked up this spring when they had the BOGO offer, ive only shot 3 rounds but grouped just fine. I haven't compared brass weights yet but will once i shoot and process them.

Just wanted to share what i had noticed with my nosler brass

I have 3 boxes of Nosler 7mm Rem brass here. Two of them are the same lot number and the weights in the two boxes are essentially the same.

The other box is about 4-5 grains different in weight, so as you I assume the capacity would be different. Given that the first two boxes are twins I'm not sure I will ever get into the 3rd box to check.

One could say that yes, they are weight sorted, but you need to get the same lot number to get the same weight from box to box.
