Last week I swapped out my Leupold VX3 LR 4.5x14 for VX3 4.5x14 CDS. Basically the same scope except for the CDS dial. I purchased the CDS a while ago so I could dial it out a little further and to take advantage how well the 280AI is shooting the 150gr ABLR. I bought the scope used and got a good deal on it.............until I went to sight it in on Friday. 1st shot at 25yds - 6 o'clock 1" low so I moved on out to 100yds. Two shots 1/2" apart 4" low at 6 o'clock so I dialed 16 clicks up and shot two more. They landed 1/2" apart...... 4" high at 1 o'clock!? Thought maybe the dial was a 1/2moa dial - nope 1/4" dial. Dialed 8 clicks down and next group was at 2" low. Dialed 4 clicks up and the group didn't move. In thirty years and over a dozen Leupold scopes this is the first one to fail. It's not a big deal I'll just swap out to the original and take a 25 mile drive over to Leupold and have it fixed. While they're at it I'll have them change the reticle. Tomorrow I'll sight in the scope and be ready for some preseason scouting. The 280AI is shooting very well and I can't wait to overwatch some of the really big clear cuts I'm hunting this year.

...couldn't you have just gotten a CDS dial for the original scope???

Gene,
That's the plan for after the season but I was in the middle of load work ups and I didn't think Leupold would get it back to me in time. After the season this reticle is going in the LR scope.

Scott, I am sure that you will have the original scope back on & on track in no time at all.
Sure hope you knock down a big bull Elk if that is what you are after :).
What load are you using under those 150gr. ABLRs?
Remember there are a few old guys on the forum that really enjoy lots of photos >
Have Fun, Shoot Straight & most of all be Safe..

Blessings,
Dan
