I was at a larger store this weekend and bought some Sweets 7.62. Today I cleaned the 06, 22-250 and the new to me 338. The 06 needed 4 soaked patches before it came out clean, the 22-250 needed 2 and the .338 needed 5. I followed the Sweets with a few dry patches and they came out white. I then used a few oiled patches to protect the barrel and they did not pick up any color also. To make sure I got the oiled, I sprayed Rem Oil in the barrel until it dripped out then set the gun barrel down for 30 minutes then used one more dry patch to get the extra out. Man it is fun to use a cleaner that shows improvement after each pass. Now I need to clean the AR-15 in .223 and 6.5 Grendel.

Now you are talking! Once you get a good copper cleaner, life is pretty danged easy! Scotty

A clean barrel is evidence of a clean mind! Well, something like that. Good to hear. A good copper cleaner makes life so much easier.

I used Sweet's 7.62 copper remover for a long time and had good success with it, but this summer I discovered the bottle's cap had cracked, and the ammonia had evaporated away. Ammonia was the active ingredient used by Sweet's to get the copper.

I couldn't locate a replacement bottle of Sweet's but I bought a bottle of Pro-Shot Copper Solvent IV from a local sporting goods store, which works just as well. I can't smell any ammonia in this bottle, so I don't know what the active ingredient is, but the bottle says it also provides rust protection. BT

Clean barrels shoot better too.

This is true, however.
Now with your clean clean barrel, you may find it takes a few rounds for it to settle in.

Now after that, I personally don't give a bore a complete cleaning again, until accuracy falls off. But that's just my way.

I don't clean a bore squeaky clean anymore either. I have seen barrels need 20 or more rounds to start to shoot well again after a squeaky cleaning. I don't clean a bore until accuracy starts to drop off or unless I have been hunting in foul weather and then I fire a fouling shot or two before use. I have also seen more barrels damaged by too much cleaning, improper use of a cleaning rod, than ever from too much shooting.
