Wow - that was very well done. I'm glad I took the thirty minutes to listen and watch live. Good proposals for keeping our kids safe in our schools.

I was left with the thought that if someone argues with this proposal, they are simply consumed with irrational hatred of the NRA and law abiding gun owners.

Hope all of you caught it, as it was truly well worthwhile. If not, I'm sure the video will be available at nra.org

I caught a portion of this news conference before fielding an extended phone call. What I heard was quite common sense. However, as LaPierre indicated, the media will likely distort what was said.

I caught a portion as well. I agreed with the content of the message but it looked like he hadn't read the speech before he got on podium. He looked incredibly uncomfortable. The news media wolves will be all over him no doubt.

As usual, the "media" covered the two protestors that showed-up at the NRA news conference. Then broke away to cover breaking news before this event was over. Our local school folks are huddling over raising certain school-taxes to tighten-up security around our three elementary schools.

We've had our share of middle-school and high-school threats over the years, but no event occured. Parents and involved students were brought into courts for a hearing. The calls and threats have died-down quite a bit lately.

I saw it as well, all of my guys sat there and watched the conference. Most all of my team guys are CCW's carriers and respect the right to assist others in trouble and also to defend themselves. Means alot to people who have been in harms way.

I saw it as well.
I went to MSNBC, which I NEVER watch to get their pulse.
Right off the bat, some jack wagon claimed to support the 2nd Amendment BUT was opposed to arming teachers and schools. Its the wrong direction and the NRA had their chance to inform us.

I say mandate every house hold (like Sweden) be armed as well as CCW for legal citizens and watch the crime rates drop drastically. Kill a few BG's and most will think of better ways to make a living.

I would have thought the NRA would have had better security to keep the rif raff out. Those folks played a lot of mileage with the antis. I agree with the message but, I fear the protesters scored one for the anti gun crowd and the media is pushing the message. Beware,
I fear it will get very unsettleing in the weeks and months to come..

Switzerland has the mandatory guns too.

Two ways to fix it and both need to be implemented immediately. Arm every law abiding citizen. Second bring back capital punishment and make the sentence fit the crime. An eye for an eye. If your a thief and your caught take all on your fingers off your right hand second time left third time goodbye. If you are caught for a murder goodbye. It's as simple as that. If your caught using drugs but them in a drug cell with all the seized drugs and let them OD. We would get rid of most of our problems quickly and quietly.

It was interesting when I visited Switzerland to see guys doing their military training, get on the train with "assault rifles", uncased and ammo pouches on their web belts. No one seemed to even pay attention to them...it was no big deal to the people that lived there. They see people walking aroud like this every day. I doubt there were many problems on the trains as well.

I have a better idea. A modified three strikes law regarding felonies, serious or otherwise..

First offense for other than violent crimes judge has discretion on sentencing.

Second offense whatever the sentence time is is automatically doubled with no possibility of parole.

Third offense, mandatory death sentence, no appeal.

My take is a repeat offender is like a cancer. If you have a cancerous tumor, you have it removed before it can do you a bad deed. A repat offender is a cancer on society so lets just cut him out permanantly from the body of society.

I'd tend to agree with you, Paul, except that judges (mostly liberal) and politicians would use such to kill off conservatives. The justice system has already degenerated into a legal system. Few people realistically expect justice from the system. They hope there will be a measure of accountability, however.

Same here, and the same thought's.
Not only the media distortion,,, there's the lack of common sense in Washington.

And in most state capitals, as well.
