This year I was hoping to get a long shot at a whitetail with my 7mm RUM. I use 160 Nosler AB & finally got the chance yesterday. I was hunting with my brother-in-law to help him fill his antlerless tag. We were on a long narrow firebreak & this little guy came out at 348 yards (rangefinder). Put the gun up on my rest held at the top of the shoulder point & let her rip. 8) Deer disappeared. At this point, while looking through the scope, I noticed a light clump of willows in the centre of the break, right in my line of sight which I had not seen and I thought, please, not again :!: A number of years ago, I hit a very small willow with a 160 NP in my 7mm Rem. Mag. It was an easy 150 yard shot but bullet deflected slightly & went through the liver. Thank God it was the liver  I went back to where the deer was standing & found the willow I hit. I still have it. So now I have the same scenario. I walked down the break & to my surprise there's the deer; it didn't take a step  So I guess I shouldn't be surprised where the bullet had entered. The AB went in back of the last rib but ahead of the hind end. The Filets & Tenderloins exploded in that spot & of course the spine was sawdust  This time I didn't go looking for the willow. If this deer had taken 2 more steps, it might have made all the difference. At least my brorher-in-law didn't yell too loud, he was happy to get it finished. What a job that AB did :!:

Good deal...I have used the same setup for antelope.

I have a similar experience with my STW a few years back. Antelope decided to take a step about the time I pulled the trigger. The 160gr AB severed the spine, and an artery or two. She was dead in the time it took me to walk the 440 yards. The AB is a very forgiving bullet.

Congratulations on your deer. The 160 gr AB did you right. The think that the higher BC bullets like your 160 gr AB are more stable and just might fair better if they hit some brush. Not fact, just my opinion.

Thanks for the compliment :) I was concentrating so much on the deer that I didn't see the willows, otherwise I might have let him take another step or two. The shade condition down the break didn't help much either. Anyway, he skinned the deer last night to clean out any waste. The hind end was fine and he was able to salvage 2/3rds of the loins. 1/3 was fertilizer  Accubonds rock :!:
