any tips/tricks for developing a load with open sights?

from about 8-12 I solely used a daisy bb gun with open sights, so when having my 338-06ai built I decided to switch things up and go open sights on it just for a change of pace for my eyes

last week did a bit of shooting fireforming and was doing ok around 50 yards shooting some steel, paper, and stationary clays

started load development today at 100yards and had one 8" group (2 rounds one 3" above the other, then duplicated on the other edge of the target)

second load was closer to 4-5"

you guys gave me great advice for my 280 (laying out a grid vs a dot on the paper) so just looking to see for myself/others some tricks/tips for the open sights

I would shoot closer (50/75 yards) or put a scope on the rifle for load development then remove it when you are happy with your loads.

If I were shooting open sights, then if at all possible I'd install a Peep sight. Others may differ but I've done a lot of open sight shooting in years past and a peep sight cuts my group size by at least half and probably more.

Whatever sight you'll work with in the field, use at the bench. Developing a load will be the identical process to building a load with a scope.
