For those of you so inclined, my spies tell me that we can apply for Oregon Elk tags. I have a great little opening marked on my GPS where I have seen elk in the past. Well maybe I have several openings marked.

I'm getting excited again. It seems to happen every year. Only to get my dreams squished by that damn 3x5 post card the says "unsuccessfull" :x Getting closer though.

I've drawn that "unsuccessful" unit several times over the years. Never killed anything in that unit but I'll keep trying if they keep drawing me for it.

I have to ask if you are not successful why do you hunt in the same area again and again? Family, trophy opportunities, tradition??? Your comment makes me wonder ??

I am in! The Beretz family is headed to Oregon this Fall, come Hell or high water! I am actually very excited to get back into Oregon.. It is almost zoo like compared to the amount of elk we saw in Idaho! HA!

It's a joke. Have you never received the dreaded 3x5 ODFW post card with "unsuccessful" directly following the hunt number you applied for?

If you have then you too have drawn the "unsuccessful" unit hunt. Lots of guys draw the tag or so they say when posts like "what tags did everyone draw" comes up.

I now understand, and I have known others who have a history of doing that exact thing.

For me, I'm after a big bull elk, or a big bear. Bucks, I'm not to worried about. I enjoy elk and bears much more. The elk hunt has some long family history of hunting in that area, and I would like to believe that it is one of the better elk tags in the state I and want to have it just once. I draw my second choice now and then and get to shoot a raghorn bull or a cow. If I don't, I spike hunt. I'm happy anytime I'm out chasing anything, I just get all escited hoping for my chance at the big one every year. I'm only dissapointed until I get a new tag in my pocket.

Well at least you get it throught the mail. In Nevada it's normally a co-worker or a friend breaking you the bad news when they looked it up online and saw they got a tag.
