A few details: Rem 700 308win, leupold VXIII 2.5x8, 150gr nosler ballistic tip at 2800fps. Shot was about 125-150yds free hand. I was hunting the lodgepole flats in a mix of oldgrowth ponderosa on the bumps, mixed with lodgepole and areas of old clearcut replant/thinned several years ago areas. In the area had been commercial wood cutting on the bumps. I was still hunting into an area i had seen mature buck tracks a few days earlier.
The buck is a mature 4x4 24" spread. About 250lb live weight is my guess. Oregon is doing a tooth survey in several units. I should get the exact age of this buck in about 8 months, I'm pretty shure he was a 4yr old. I got about 80lb of processed boneless meat out of him.
Congratulations on an excellent buck. Pre-rut or early rut, he should be excellent table fare, and he is assuredly a fine looking animal. Again, congratulations.
