A thought occurred to me, and truly not to put you on the spot - but you've stated several times that you've got decades of experience hunting mulies and elk out west.

Nothing I love better on the forum than a good hunting story, even stories from years ago, and sometimes those are my favorites.

How 'bout spinning up a yarn or two from the "old days" about some of your favorite hunts?

Photos would be a plus - if you've got them available. If you don't have a way to post them, I'd be happy to do that for you.

Figured I'd just volunteer you for a writing project...

Feel free to tell me to shove off if you'd like, but honestly, I'd enjoy a good hunting story or two of yours.

Regards, Guy

Charlie I also would love to see some pics from back when. I love old hunting pics. It really makes me appreciate the technology we have. My friend from Colorado showed me some of his B&C mulie bucks ( 13 or 14 now) that he has taken on public land. Some of those pics show him knee deep in snow with only blue jeans on as they were the " hunting gear" of the time....

Pics of those model 70's back then would be pretty cool as well!! Nice thread Guy!

Yeah, frankly I don't have a lot of hunting stories from the 1980's or 1990's. Didn't hunt nearly as much then as I was a young fellow, in the Marines, deployed a lot, unable to take much time for hunting. Also didn't take near as many photos back in the 35mm days as even my "compact" 35mm camera was pretty bulky so it didn't often come along on hunting and fishing trips - when I could get out on a trip.

Am hoping that not only OT3, but others will chime in with their own hunting stories from decades past, and photos are always a great addition!

The older we get the larger the bull, or the buck and the farther the shot!

That's why I never carried a camera, until quite recently, Bill.

Oh, I have some very "old" photo's I will see if I can post a couple before we head south.

That would be excellent buddy. I would like to show B some of them as well.

Of course! (y)

Sadly my youngest son's hero worship was shattered several years ago when he saw me put a 100 gr .25 cal bullet right over a mulie buck at about 400 yards... :( I forgot that I didn't really have to adjust much for elevation, shooting the .25-06 Rem.

Feet of clay, I do have.

Before that miss, the young man had witnessed a string of kills on mule deer, rock chucks and other assorted critters... Dad puts the rifle to shoulder, something way out there falls over. He was amazed that the mulie didn't fall when the shot rang out. So was I!

Heck back before I could afford a camera all the deer I shot in Ohio with a gun ( smooth bore 12 gauge with iron sights) were at least 200-250 yards away on the run. One shot kills as well. LOL..

Wait till Bill tells you about the B&C spike I shot. Made his look like it just fell outta the womb

I love hunting stories as well. I have trouble with new tech stuff but I don't think this should surprise anyone that old tech stuff gave me trouble as well.
I have some very old photos just don't know how to get them on the computer .

Blessings,
Dan

My bipolar and revengeful ex-wife kept all of my family silver and even my personal pictures of my hunts and travels worldwide, my stuff, not hers! I have a few somewhere but you are putting me on the spot at the moment. I have some from the 60,s and 70's. I will see what I can do. The other problem I am having this moment it the flu with Hypoxia and I can't even remember my passwords! Give me a few days to feel better and I will try.

I am having a Trigeminal nerve ablation on this Wednesday to stop some head pain from an old skull fracture and Sinus cancer removal in my face. Maybe after the pain from that subsides my brain will work better. Not being evasive, just old and intend to cooperate when I can. Sorry!

Thanks for asking!
Charlie

Charlie,
I look forward to reading your stories.

I didn't know anybody was interested in this kind of stuff. I've been looking through some old hunting photos for something worth scanning in and restoring. But right now I've been playing chess with a good whitetail buck for several weeks. The weather is going to be bad, wind & temps, and the season goes out Jan. 15th. After that I might can get back to the photo's.
I can't go back as far as OT3 but depending on what I find I can go back aways. Might need a reminder though...

I may go a little farther back than that!! Some photo's from the same area however. IF i can get them online clearly enough to share.

I can't wait Charlie! You guys reminiscing about nostalgic hunts got me to wondering, Dr. Mike, Guy and David - what was the feeling like in the shooting community when they came out with smokeless powders? I bet you guys were elated!

Oh boy, I think I opened a can of worms on this one! Probably going to be called a whippersnapper!
