So along the lines of "Same Powder different lot#" when switching how do you do it? Do you load up and shoot for groups until you locate the new accurate charge or do you fire across the chrono (assuming you knew previous velocity) until you hit the same speed or close to?

Bill,

I drop back 5% and shoot over the chronograph while check for accuracy. I am observing to see if the new lot is identical to the previous lot. If so, bonus. If not, the data generated should give me a clue as to burn rate and how the new load will perform.

I agree with Dr. Mike.
Always drop back and restart the load.
I shouldn't take more than a few rounds to
see where your at if you already have an
accurate load from another lot. IMHO RE22
is one of the worst offenders along with Varget.
Don't take chances.

Bill, I do the same as Mike, drop back 5% and see where I'm at. If everything looks okay I will drive on with my load making sure accuracy is the same. I've seen Varget, RL15 and 22 give small FPS changes but 15 was my worst offender. I bought a 1lb'er that was really slow but once I worked back up it was great. Well, then I bought a 5lb jug and dropped back to my original load and voila it was dead on! Go figure. From now on I try to stick with the big jugs if possible. Seems to work much better for me.

One of the things I do with 1 pounders, is dump them all into a big bowl and mix them up well, then pour it back into the bottles. I use a new oil funnel, and write mixed on the container. If I got an empty 8 pounder jug I put the powder in there. If I get a few new bottles, they get blended into the old.

Only a couple times in my life, have I been able to afford big jugs of powder.

Then I work up a load.

We only have 1lb containers around here so when one gets low I dump it into the new one, shake it up, load up whatever charge I usually shoot and have at it.
