Partitions for the 35 Whelen

Got some 225 Partitions coming from Shooters this week. Curious how they will compare grouping in the 35 Whelen vs the current 225 AB I'm shooting. The AccuBond performs very well, but at the price from shooters it made it worth while to give a try.

In a number of my rifles, Partitions out shoot ABs. In my 35 Whelen, this appears to hold true at this point.

Don,

I have used the 225 gr PT's for years in my 35 Whelen. They shoot very well and hammer WT Deer and Black Bear.

Good comments you guys. I'm anxious to give them a try. What is your load data for the 225 PT you guys have used. Currently I'm using 59.0 RL15, yields 2677 fps. The velocity has always been fine with me.

Don,

I used IMR 4064 and Accurate 2015BR. I think you will bet getter results with RL 15.

The 225 gr PT penetrates very well. I remember a buck that played peek a boo with me and wouldn't come in from the cedar swamp. After several minutes, I decided to take him head on. At 40 yds, I put a 225 gr PT in the middle of his chest and dropped him in his tracks. The bullet exited between the hams. When I field dressed him, the gut were not even busted up.

I had really good success with AA 2015 and RL 15 with the 225 gr Partition never did try Varget with it but it should work great too. You may be just fine with RL 15 and may not need to look further. The Partition will be somewhat less destructive on meat compared to the AccuBond, like JD338 said it will penetrate deep and open up a good wound channel as well.

Don, I shoot the 225 PT out of my 358 Win at 2450 and man, it is very effective. I kinda went that direction for the BLR as I can seat it where it needs to be and is pretty speedy for that little case. I took a few deer with them last year and my best friend took his first deer with the rifle. It HAMMERS deer. Just like Jim said, it puts them down hard and doesn't chew up alot of meat either. I stuck one deer high through the hams and the bullet came out forward in the chest. Even though it smashed the hip bone, I didn't lose more than a few ounces of meat on that deer. It is a very awesome bullet.

I would try seating up your current load you are using for your AB's and see where it shoots for you. Since your AB load shoots so well, I almost think you would do very well starting right there too. Man, all this 35 talk has me excited again. Can't wait to see what you get with them! I loaded up a few hundred of them for my 358. No real need to look elsewhere in that rifle. They are accurate and about as powerful as that rifle can be.

Good input from everyone. I'm going to stay with RL15 as it's given good results. The reason I'm trying the PT, the AB groups two then I get the third that strays, just a little. The load works fine. I'm going to recheck the PT COL to the lands first. But as you stated Scotty I was thinking too at starting with the AB COL.

I read somewhere the differences in the AB vs the PT, the PT will seal the bore better than the AB. At least that's what I came away with understanding.

JD that story is impressive, can't wait to load some up and get to the range. The bullet shipment is due in mid next week.

I use the same seating die setting for the 250 PT and the 225AB in my Whelen. The AB's load longer, but shoot excellent. Can't say for sure how the 225 PT would shoot in the Whelen, but I gotta assume it would be as good as the other two. I do think the Flat Bases on the PT's add a little to the accuracy. I am "almost" wanting to try the 160 PT's in 7WSM, but I have them set aside for the 7x57. Want to get a load for the boy to hunt big stuff with. Figure that 160 PT in the mid 2700's would be pretty awesome.

I didn't have much trouble making the 160 AB's shoot in the 7WSM, but when something changed between the older 2nds and the newer 1st's, my groups went to the dog house. Had to seat them alot further into the case to get them back. I think I am there now, but it took some work. It had me a little worried..

I just received my shooters proshop 225 partitions. I use the 225 partitions in my 350 rem mag and they shoot very well.

Good luck at the range, they are even better than they look. :)

You gentleman are driving me crazy with all this talk about loading for the 35 my sits in a gun safe waiting to hear when I can send it back to get it repaired :(.
I might be having to take another road trip.
I will have lots of questions once I can spend some time working with this little lady.

Blessings,
Dan

You know? For all the love I see for the .35 Whelen (Me too   ) I'm kind of surprised we don't have a special room expressly for the cartridge. I go to several sites but the enthusiasm for the round on them is nothing like what I see here. I may be relatively new to the round and enjoy learning more so keep it up guys.
