Okay, I do not own a Savage but would like to own one. (I have read many good things) I am able to get a good deal on one and am looking at two different rifles. The reason for the rifle other than gettting a new gun is to use at the range and reload for. My two choices are the 12 FV in 204 or the Model 10/110 predator in 6.5x284. The 204 would be used every once and a while to hunt yotes close to the house and the 6.5 would be used deer hunting from time to time. So what one would you choice and why?

I am a big 6.5 cal fan so the choice is easy 6.5/284  but that's just me. They are both for really different purposes you must be leaning one way already.

I am leaning one way. The cool thing is that the deal I get will last a long time so in a few years, I could get the other rifle. I just want to know more about these two rifles.

I have a Ruger 1V in 204.
32 gr V-max at 4225 fps with Win 748 and shoots in the .3's

A screw it get both!

Your choices are pretty different for different applications.
Of the two, I would pick the 6.5-284.

I know they are on other ends of the specturm. I really want it to shoot paper more than anything. I want to see small groups.

...6.5X284...

I just bought the model 111 LRH. Savage are great rifles! Go with the 6.5-284, great for long ranges as well.

The 6.5-.284 is the way to go. It is much more versatile, meeting the conditions you have imposed on yourself.

Wow, I was really thinking the 204 for plinking and bench shooting. I am still leaning that way due to the fact that I have not really expanded out in distance. We have a 300 yard range. I was thinking that I could improve on distance shooting with the 22-250 and 204 then move to the 6.5-284 when I am able to really step up and get a long range rifle. Thanks for the info but all you did is make me want both rifles. Keep the info coming.

I like the 6.5's. Pretty fun rifles for shooting at the range and for hunting. You could always run lighter weight bullets in the 6.5 for varmints and still have a rifle to smack deer with. Scotty

I'm starting to relent about new Savage rifles. There are two that I might consider picking up...
1. 6.5x284 in a Long Range Hunter
2. .338 Lapua in a 110BA (I wish Scotty or Brian would buy one so I don't have to be the guinea pig!).

I bought the model 111 long range hunter in the 338 lapua. Best rifle I have ever bought. Here is the results when breaking the barrel in.

hey guys its been awhile hope you had a good season. i think you will like the 6.5-284 but i think if you can get a 260 that would be the route i would take for your use. i have a 6.5-284 and a 6.5x47 lapua and shoot the lapua alot more. either way i would get a 6.5 in some configuration. oh yeah the middlested is still unfinished.
